i9-12900K 16 Running Hot

I've recently upgraded my PC from an AMD Ryzen 2600 and ASRock MB to the new build below with an i9-12900K. My problem is that it keeps running at like 95-99* C whenever I'm gaming (idles at around 50). The games are typically Madden or Battlefield, running at medium-high settings. The games run fine, but I worry about the temp of the CPU. I've read around and thought maybe it was the cooler - so I took it off, added a tiny bit more thermal paste, and made sure its making good contact when putting it back on. I've also tried lowering the voltage - which helped, but then it becomes unstable and will crash mid-game once things get heavy. I'm curious if anyone has any other solutions or tips - or if this is even anything I should worry about since these chips tend to run hotter.

MSI use a CPU settings systems based on whether you choose a a "box", "tower air", or "liquid" cooler. Choosing "liquid" sets an extreme performance profile. Choose "tower air" instead (even though you have an AIO cooler) and this may resolve the CPU temps issue without affecting game performance.

Wouldn't recommend that...
Yeah, that has to be wicked unstable or running at like DDR4-2400. I would remove the smaller set first before bothering with temps.

As for CPUs, 100c is how the turbo is designed. You can of course go into the BIOS and manually adjust the power limit and get lower temperatures.

Thank you for this - I toyed with this option but wasn't sure which one to pick.

I've done both of these changes and have seen some improvement - idle is the same but temps now while gaming are anywhere in the 70s-95 maximum.
Just curious as I don't know a lot why the RAM would be unstable? I ran it in my old setup just fine but I am also naive.

You want to run matched sets of RAM; preferably just 2. 2x8, 2x16, 2x32. If you do 4 sticks, match them 4x8, 4x16. Etcetera. All the same size, same speed, same model. When you mix and match, you have all sorts of potential problems with different voltage requirements, different densities, and different timings causing stability or performance issues. More than likely, you will see better perfomance with the 2x16 on their own. For best performance, run the two in the motherboard slot recommended in your motherboard manual.

The other that might be worth checking are your Control Panel Power Options. A quick way to check is Windows+R keys, type in 'powercfg.cpl' without the quotes and click on OK. If a High performance plan is selected consider using Balanced (recommended) instead.

As @pressing on mentioned your system is ill equipped to run the liquid cooling setting in the MSI BIOS, but for the workload described that temperature is still way, way too high. Double check the mount and see if you didn't forget the protective film in the AIO while assembling the system.

the temps are normal on ADL and beyond. Boost until it almost sets on fire and then hold it slightly below.
but you could have just bought a 5800X3D instead (which is faster)

Those temps are pretty high for gaming, i'd be wondering if the cooler is making good contact with the CPU.
I don't remember my ADL running that hot in games of course that's been a while.

my 14900K is low 50's in games, actually cooler than my 7950x in my other machine.

Because it doesn't run that hot. Neither ADL nor RPL do.
