Zotac Designs Shorter GeForce GTX 260 Accelerator

Zotac's design team is at it again, releasing a newer graphics card design based on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 GPU. This one, concentrates on making the card shorter, lengthwise. The shorter graphics card also makes do with just one 8-pin PCI-Express power connector. The PCB length is lopped from the typical 26.5 cm to 23 cm, making it easier to fin in smaller cases. With the PCB compact, several heat-producing components are moved closer to each other, making it easier to cool with a smaller common cooler base plate.
The cooler consists of a copper base plate over the GPU, which is topped by a heatsink with radially-projecting fins with a fan over it. The copper base plate makes contact with the larger aluminum plate that cools every other component, including the 14 memory chips, the NVIO2 processor, and the card's VRM area. Speaking of which, the VRM area is relocated to the front of the card, is made of a 4-phase vGPU circuit. The vMem is located towards the other end, and is of two phases.

The card makes use of 14 Hynix 0.8 ns GDDR3 chips to make for 896 MB of memory, across a 448-bit wide interface. Despite its compact form-factor, it comes with factory-overclocked speeds of 625/1100 MHz (core/memory). The connectivity options on the card include DVI-D, D-Sub, and HDMI. The card is 3-way SLI capable, and can pair with other GeForce GTX 260 accelerators. There's no word on the available or pricing yet.

That's pretty damn impressive. I've had a GTX 260, they're some pretty big cards

Some of ATi's AIBs should really make a shorter 5870 :respect:

Anyways, this looks much better than the Galaxy single slot.
That thing is a safty hazard.

DaedalusHeliosI hope its $100 MSRP.
Don't get those hopes up too high. With something like this, the features on this newer 260, it's bound to be a tad higher in price than other variants of the card.

Nah, thats not the way Zotac rolls but you may be right this time. Who knows.

Actually it will most likely be around $150 I am thinking. Forgot they still charge around that.

Good for an HTPC but I am not sure what else really.

What are you planning on using it for?

Only one 8-pin! Thank God! I hope other manufacturers start to follow this lead, because I'm tired or running two cables to each card, when one will work the same and look better.

Quite nice. This will blow most of the hot air in case though, if that non-issue is an issue to someone. Might want some GT300 by Zotac if they keep this up.

I would much rather have this than the single slot card for my case. It will only accommodating up to 9.5" cards, and the second slot would be useless if not filled up with a graphics card heatsink. Anything longer than 9.5" requires mods to get it to fit

The more I look at it, the more I like and dislike it...hahaha

Things I like:
Shorter!
Native HDMI
8-Pin Power
Possibility of GTX275 varient(and it even looks like the PCB was made with expandability to a GTX275 in mind)
4 Mount holes around the NVIO2 chip, for easy aftermarket conversion

Things I don't like:
Cooler(I would much rather have a blower type cooler on this, some air will be forced out the back, but I prefer all hot air going out the back)
No possibility for GTX285
VGA Port(I prefer two DVI+HDMI)

The reason for the VGA port could possibly be because if the price is right that might target this toward some OEM possibly?

The article only says it will hit the Asian market soon, things always hit the Asian market first coming from Asian companies. That doesn't mean it won't make it over to other market. I hope it does at least.
