Google Releases Chrome Beta for Linux and Mac

Google's slim and swift web-browser Chrome has been ported to Linux and Mac, at last, and a public beta release has been published. The beta version continues to use the version scheme of the latest developer channel release for Windows, with version 4.0.249.30 being the latest. It supports nearly all features of the Windows version, including sandboxed multi-process rendering for multiple browser tabs, among other features. Sadly, the team isn't ready with browser plugin support, with the Linux version not being able to use the Netscape compatible browswer plugins such as Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Java, and others which other browsers such as Firefox and Opera are able to use. Compared to the 700MB to 1.4GB of ram FireFox takes up on Mac if you've left your system on for any short period of time, Chrome is slim. At the moment I have about 16 hours of uptime and FireFox is eating 743MB, even in idle without any tabs open. Chrome uses about 50MB when idling, and in heavy use with 13 YouTube tabs open playing videos it doesn't go over 250MB... Doing that on FireFox for Mac is suicide. And when you close your Chrome window memory usage drops back to <50MB... unlike FireFox which still eats 700+MB.

I got so mad at chromium last night that I uninstalled it. It sandboxed 3 failed flash tabs and left them running in the memory at 100% CPU each:banghead: Sandboxing my a@#. Oh, and AdBlock didn't block a few adds that FF did. I wonder why.
