Well there are twin rotor helicopters, maybe there is something behind it.

That reverse-spin-dustoff sounds cool, if it actually works. Wouldn't work for me, as I don't shut down, but those that do daily might be.

Anyhow it's something different and that's always good.

Twin rotor choppers rotate in two directions, don't they? I believe that is done so that you don't need a balancing rotor to keep the chopper from spinning.

Interesting, I read that anticlockwise is the british way of saying counterclockwise.
And that the jews used to have clocks that rotated the other way because they also read/wrtite the other direction, so I guess you could call it jewishclockwise :)

Anyway for the yanks the term is counterclockwise, abbreviated CCW.
Maybe they should make updated PR material for the US regions.

I like how the news only really mentions the gimmick of a cooler, no mention of the GPU performance (because it's pants, yes?).

The first thing amd and nvidia can't wait to mention when they bring out a new gpu is a gimmick they've made for the fan.......

We use reversible fans in certain applications to self clean. They work well, but do have more working parts, and thus failures. Is this really needed on a card of this size? Do you really want to hear the fans spin up and down every 30 seconds?

This new fan tech is not as big as they make it out to be. The first thing against it, its the card it cools, weak fan for a weak card, which it makes sense.

The second thing are the blade design, not that innovative since I've seen similar jet engine looking fans before and they just do as good of a job as normal fans.

-they only usefull thing would be the direction option the fan has, that can maintain the fan clean. but as Steevo said, the more parts for it the higher the chances for it to fail.

I had to check twice as well, but I believe they mean the first 30 seconds after booting your PC the fan spins counterclockwise, and after that it does its normal job.

I've always admired the Calibre lineup, until now :( I'm sad at this low end gpu with makeup on.

The Calibre were always supposed to be the best of the line, but this is damn poor effort.

Can't blame Sparkle, they've fell into the Nvidia marketing trap that making low-end gpus will generate you more money.

I don't see it as being effective as they claim it would be to clean out the dust. Sure it'll work a little bit, but most electronics attract dust off of electrostatic forces. Slowly but surely that will build up over time regardless of the fan direction since it's still using electricity. I could be wrong, I'm just kind of working off the physics that I have taken crossed with a bit of life experience which is always deadly, but I think that they're overhyping the idea.

Its really not the point "Why the card?" but whats the point with the elaborate cooling solution?I mean it could almost run passively with no need of a active cooler but Sparkle seems to think it was worth the PR money to come up with some dual rotor "anti-clockwise" cooling solution......what the hell for?

Looks like another. "We are bored and not selling cards so lets brain storm some gimmicks to help sell these outdated video cards we have stock piles of"

Im pretty sure thats what the Memo said :laugh:

This is interesting, I remember doing tests quite a while ago with several fans stacked(different speeds, different diams) but never thought to try mounting the blades like this. I wonder how the noise/air flow compared to a reg 90mm fan?

At first when I looked at this I thought 2 separate spinning fans but after closer looking the 2 fans are attached together making 1 blade.

I dont get the reverse spinning thing though, 30sec isant gonna remove a significant amount of dust, that seems like adding complexity where it isant needed (marketing baloney)

Still it would be cool to compare this fan directly to a reg one..

It is, different connector, different pins. I have a graphics card with a dvi port the same way.
The pins are really close together, and right up against the edge.

Although I completely agree, gimmick it is, and a bad one at that.
