ASRock Unveils 890FX Extreme3 Motherboard

ASRock introduced its newest high-end motherboard for the AMD platform, the 890FX Extreme3. This socket AM3 motherboard is based on AMD's 890FX + SB850 chipset, and is geared for high-end discrete graphics setups. The CPU is powered by an 8+2 phase VRM that is cooled by an elaborate active heatsink that also draws heat from the 890FX chip. The board BIOS carries memory multipliers to support DDR3 1800 MHz with ease. Expansion slots include three PCI-Express x16, of which the blue slots are PCI-E 2.0 x16, while the third white slot is PCI-E 1.1 x4; and two each of PCI-E x1 and PCI. All six SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the SB850 are internal, while an additional VIA storage controller handles eSATA and IDE. Connectivity includes gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, eSATA, and 8-channel audio with SPDIF connectors. The ASRock 890FX-Extreme3 should reach stores in a few weeks.

not too bad you could still slip a Nvidia card in the 3rd pci-e for physX if you wanted to kill time

wtf!! they really gotta stop putting those 1x pci slots right by the first video card slow i mean REALLY COME ON! if your buying a high end board, got forbid you have a high end video card which will most likely block both of those *Facepalm*

Actually not bad looking, though a bit cheap on the fan for the heatsink over the PWM area.

Probably it's for tower coolers... they don't blow as much air on the heat sinks around them as the classical coolers, so it's a good idea IMO.

Unless you have some weird coolers, the slot above the video card will not be blocked ;)

Because even newer TV tuner cards and sound cards are on x1 slots now.
Not to mention things like RAID cards.
PCI slots are pretty much useless for new hardware

I say its time that 1 PCI Slot should be on the board and at the top where it cant be blocked, then double spaced PCI E Slots for the video cards then the rest are single slots.
