Unigine Releases Heaven 2.1 Benchmark

Unigine launched version 2.1 of its Heaven cross-platform, cross-API 3D Graphics benchmark. The popular free benchmark application uses the builds on Unigine Heaven 2.0, with two major changes. To begin with, it supports OpenGL 4.0, a 3D graphics API that is technologically comparable to DirectX 11. Heaven 2.1 uses all of the latest features of GL 4.0, including hardware tessellation support. The second major change is the support for stereoscopic 3D, including support for several stereo 3D viewing modes such as Analygraph, separate images, 3D Vision, and iZ3D. Several other stability fixes were also introduced.

Why bother? This update clearly shows it had nv in mind. I really don't see the rational of 3D being added for a benchmark such as this.

i hear that. then again those that want to test dx11 performance with nvidia 3d enabled will get an "idea" of what to expect compared to non-dx11 3d.

Exactly;)

j/k bro. I see what your saying, but the update itself seems reasonable.

nvidias press monkey. No thanx. That dragon brings back memories of Nvidia: " tessellation ... and tessellation.. when you tessellate."

Even though, it'd be interesting to see a review comparing GTX4xx and HD58xx performance using OpenGL tessellation

Interesting for what, academics? There is no tangible need for any results. And, I'm still waiting to see if Sony will support it for the PS4 or whatever they call it (still just a rumor). Currently there are no games using OpenGL 4.0 for tessellation. And here's the important part, I know of no developers that are catering to OpenGL 4.0 for any future games for Tessellation support. So the interesting part of OpenGL flew out the window and is no were to be seen IMO.

Then we don't have to worry if for the exact same quality OpenGL could deliver higher fps than DirectX (something I’ll test later). Sad proprietary API’s and middleware are winning these days.

Maybe to see which one is faster, DX11 or OGL4.0 ??? The quality seems to be similar this time.

Did anyone test it yet? Which one is faster on ATI/NVIDIA???

I wish they would share/combine technologies so we could have some badass open gl/dx11/eyefinity/3d effects on a slifire 5970/480 set-up.

Just a wild shot in the dark it maybe possible for id Tech 5 to support it. Even if this wild shot in the dark is remotely possible would we see it in Rage? I honestly don't think so if you want to be realistic. It would be very good news indeed if they supported OpenGL 4.0 and used tessellation in Rage. But hey, never say never right?

Nice, that only proves that it was release the same time they released their new drivers.
So we can finally put to rest that their is a real relationship between the 2 :p
After all I won't bother testing Unigine Heaven 2.1, I didn't take seriously the allegations about Unigine and Nvidia deep relation (e.g. Semiaccurate) but now it's completely clear we're in front of the new "Nvidia, The Way It's Meant to Be Benchmarked" :wtf:

wahdangunWTF, they are doing:confused:, they definitely make the benchmark less independent.

and also it will crush they credibility

oh well at least now he have new future mark
Unigine sells engine licenses. They are not there to provide benchmarking programs. This is mere a showcase of their engine technology.

So that dumb people will be eager to show their e-peens while helping to promote Unigine. Games have these "benchmarks" too, and those are like demos that are worse than demos.
