Gigabyte Details and Tests GTX 460 Accelerator in Leaked Sales Kit

Gigabyte, in a sales kit presentation to its distribution partners, detailed its upcoming GeForce GTX 460 768MB product, the GV-N460D5-768I-B. This card sticks to the NVIDIA reference design, including reference clock speeds, and is positioned at the US $199 price point. What's more interesting about these sales kit slides is the performance and market position described by Gigabyte. The GTX 460, according to the company, is said to perform "close" to generic ATI Radeon HD 5830. The keyword here is "close", as HD 5830 is still the faster card.

Gigabyte also demonstrated the card in a variety of games and benchmarks, where it was pitted against GeForce GTX 465, Radeon HD 5830, and some older GeForce 200 series cards. Tests included 3DMark06, 3DMark Vantage (performance preset) and 3DMark Vantage (extreme preset). While in 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage (P) it outpaces the HD 5830, the HD 5830 edges past it in 3DMark Vantage (X). The two also trade blows in DirectX 11 benchmarks. While the GTX 460 maintains some lead over the HD 5830 in older game tests, the HD 5830 does manage to outperform in some tests.

Performance charts follow.

Gigabyte's GTX 460 768MB could release along with most other GTX 460 accelerators, by the 12th of July.

Looks like msi has higher clocks than this one. |725/1450/3600(900) vs 675/1350/3600(900)|

besides performance in far cry 2 and dx 11.. it's barely any better than a gtx 260 = no upgrade for me :ohwell:.

Would be lot more interesting if this boy tested on newer games. Looks pretty compact card to me.

Waiting for a W1zz review here once it comes out...:)

It won't beat a 275 gtx because in most things a 275 gtx beats a 465 gtx or matches it so a 460 won't. I call bs

I thought they had a 1gig 256 version of this card as well.
Thats the one they say is a beast.

Yeah, the 1GB version is supposedly 256-bit instead of the 192-bit 768MB version, so I'd be interested in seeing some early 768 vs. 1GB benches.

It wont be that good cuz the card does not really need the 256-bit bandwidth. The most powerful cards really need it and with gddr5 that is going to be a nonsense.
The card will be faster, but not that fast as they say...
