AMD Releases ATI Catalyst 10.9a Hotfix for Radeon HD 4800 X2 Series Graphics Cards

Less than a day after releasing the ATI Catalyst 10.9 WHQL driver suite, AMD rolled out the Catalyst 10.9a Hotfix driver for users of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 and Radeon HD 4850 X2 graphics accelerators. Applicable for Windows Vista and Windows 7, Catalyst 10.9b Hotfix improves performance of the said graphics cards, eliminating a bug that lets the OS make use of only one of the two GPUs.

This is exactly what i was concerned about with the steam baised ati/amd driver updates. i would hope that if you have a 4870x2 or 4850x2 it would offer this update but preferably only if you have those cards(assuming it truly only has an effect on those two cards). I geuss only time will tell?

As you should be aware, there are no greener pastures as both companies and users of the products of both companies experience issues in this area. Your post, which will only serve to incite those of a similar mindset on the "other side" of a divide to which too many people subscribe, will undoubtedly bring a hail of responses extolling the virtues of ATI's products and drawing attention to problems with Nvidia's products - will that prove in any way helpful or informative and is it really relevant to this thread?

Wow, chill out buddy. this :p means being silly. But if you really want to get serious the HD58 series has been out a year and ever since the drivers have been problematic, Nvidia have more success with their drivers, just a fact don't like it bite it.

I am entirely chilled, but I would like to see this forum remain as free as possible of the partisan bickering that characterises many other tech sites, care to lend a hand?

Every driver from 10.6 - 10.8 my framerates in BFBC2 are halved with crossfire (30-45 FPS) 10.9/a the framerates are better but now i keep getting crash to desktop, sometimes at the loading screen, other a min into a round. No issues with any other game.

What will be interesting is either Cat 10.10 or Cat 10.11 to see if there is a new driver. So far, if you look carefully, they've now moved from vc redistributed 2008 to vc redistributed 2010 with Cat 10.9.

You can have your power hungry, and heat producing Nvidia 400 series card. I like Nvidia to, but I've had nps with ATI. Have you ever heard the saying "Grass isn't always greener on the otherside?" Ati has been improving their drivers well, and the drivers are alot better than they use to be. If all you care about is perfomance and more power/heat and not bang for buck than yes go Nvidia, but if you want bang for buck and almost the same performance with less power and heat than go ATI.

Yeah this sounds about right . Love my HD5770 great card . Surprised me really . I took this over the GTX460 for less power and heat it has some kick to it .

I did not know that ATI Cat 10.9 was even out getting now thank you .

Any word if this affects crossfire users? I've been getting BSODs and artifacts and I'm thinking they all stared happening when I installed Catalyst 10.9.

I guess it's worth a shot.
