Zotac Designs Overclocker-Friendly GeForce GTX 460

Zotac is ready with a new high-end (read: overclocker-friendly) graphics card based on the GeForce GTX 460 graphics processor. This yet to be named variant uses a completely custom-designed PCB and cooler that are geared for overclocking. The PCB sports a heavy duty VRM, while the gargantuan GPU cooler is both tall and three-slots thick. To begin with, this is a GTX 460 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface. It is overclocked out of the box, with room for more overclocking/overvolting. The PCB makes use of an 8+2+2 phase VRM that makes use of high-grade chokes, double FETs, high-grade solid-state capacitors as well as three decoupling device prodalizers. The voltage controller is a uP6218, which supports the I2C interface for software voltage control.

Next up is the cooling, which consists of a massive GPU cooler, and heatsinks that cover almost every major component on the PCB, including the VRM controller. The GPU cooler measures 185 × 131 × 63 mm, weighing 465 g. It makes use of a dense aluminum fin array to which heat is conveyed from the GPU block by four copper heat pipes. Air is circulated by a 120 mm fan. The heatsink over other components is made of aluminum, is spans across the memory and VRM. Display outputs on the card include two DVI, a standard size HDMI and a DisplayPort. Pricing and availability of the card are not known.

I don't have any Zotac experience but that has the halmarks of some seriously careful design, from the PCB heastinks, the GPU heatinsk and the fan blowing across the whole thing. Nice.

Yes, it looks very nice.

But...

Pricing would make it very important. 3 slot cooler discounts sli for most mobo's so you'd be stuck with one card? I know it'll perform as well as a 5850 or even a 470 when oc'd but i dont think it's a good mix. Surely putting this on a 470 would have been better?

Honestly, reference GTX 460s are so easy to clock as it is, I don't see spending any extra money on this. If you want extreme OCs, then they should have bundled this with a waterblock. Just my opinion.

Not all that interested TBH. To big for SLI and I doubt that it would clock much better than the more-reasonably-sized Asus GTX460 TOP models

I didn't know they were making the Hindenburg again!

Seriously the thing looks like a supersized blimp

I thought everyone knew bigger is better :p

Really though to me triple slot cards are not a problem for sli and the idea of a 120mm stock cooler is great as long as it is quiet and cools well, but yes i admit it will proberley be quite expensive so really it would need to clock a little higher and stay cooler and quieter than the rest of the gtx460's to be truly worth it thus why im so interested to see some reviews.

gtx460 with 3 slots, that's too much waste in size

May not get as big of an overclock, but I like the bigger coolers with the fins running length-wise with the card. Buy two, take off those fans, use a 120mm/140mm fan on the end to cool both. Build a custom duct if needed (those fins are a bit tight).

Whoa, 120mm fan on a video card.

Where's the GTX 480 version :D

while this card is awesome and all.... I'd personally take a TGT Beast GTX460 and maybe slap an aftermarket cooler on it. Card binning IMO is going to work better for OC friendly cards rather than slapping the average GTX460 GPU on a kickass board with a kickass cooler.
