Super Flower Intros First-to-Market 80 Plus Platinum Modular PSU

PSU OEM Super Flower became the first to market an 80 Plus Platinum certified modular power supply unit (PSU), the SF-550P14PE. An 80 Plus Platinum certified PSU delivers power with 92% of typical efficiency. Further, its fan controller is programmed to run the fan only if the internal temperatures cross 65~70°C. If temperatures are below that, the fan stays off. The company displayed a 550W model, a 650W model (SF-650P14PE) is also in the works.

The PSU makes use of a single 12V rail design, with a single 45.5A rail. The PSU is ATX v2.3 & EPS12V v2.92 compliant, and features modular cabling. The 24-pin ATX, 4+4 pin EPS, and two PCI-E (6 pin and 8 pin) are fixed, two additional PCI-E power connectors (6 pin and 8 pin) can be connected, apart from a number of SATA, Molex, and Floppy connectors. Key connectors such as PCI-E have REMI-cores to reduce EMI. The company has just started marketing these in Eastern markets, it remains to be seen when and if these will make it to Europe and US.

I didn't even know there was a Platinum rating for 80+. What comes after that? 95% efficiency gets you 80+ obsidian rating?

No. The company had a different name when it originally started well over 100 years ago. The first use of the name Mercedes was for an engine they built specifically for a racer who loved their products. He agreed to be a spokesmen for their engines and race using only their products and they named the engine after his racing name/daughter's real name. It worked and he eventually joined the board of directors. They changed the company's civilian name to Mercedes-Benz for some reason I don't recall.

I'm guessing they'll just change everything over to a 90+ rating system, or something along those lines.

Yep, Daimler-Benz.

Super Flower used to be a mid-high level brand here but then, for some reason, their products stopped selling. They used to make good quality chassis, accessories and PSUs. I can still find their fan controllers, but it's still very rare.

Nothing, for now. If they do manage a 95%+ efficient PSU, it will probably be 80+ Diamond. I can't imagine it going any higher than that.

Thanks all for the Mercedes clarifications (not that I did not know hehehe, My mom is german, btw.)

Still, if you take a second, and free yourself from nearly 1 century of Mercedes publicity, it is an odd name, just as lyrical as Flower Power ;).
