Intel Desktop Board Lineup for 2011-12 Disclosed

Here are some of the first motherboards by Intel's Desktop Board brand of consumer motherboards. Towards the end of 2011, Intel will release its Sandy Bridge-E high-end desktop platform. Like with the launch of any new chipset or desktop platform, Intel will have its Desktop Board products in place, that follow the chipset and branding specifications to the letter. With Sandy Bridge-E, Intel will launch two Extreme Series motherboards, the DX79SI and the DX79TO. In the second half of 2011, Intel will also launch a variety of Intel Atom boards, including one codenamed "Marshaltown".

Then in the first half of 2012, Intel will launch its next-generation 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" desktop processors in the LGA1155 package (compatible with Sandy Bridge). To back its launch, Intel will release a new chipset called Z77 Express. There will be no discrete graphics chipsets. H77 is the client desktop chipset that lacks overclocking features. Z77 has them, and support for Smart Response technology. Q77 adds a few enterprise management features. Intel's Z77 based motherboards include two Extreme series models, and two top-end Media Series models.

Unless X79 is really really good i fear most people will skip it and go with Sandy bridge boards/2600k and hold out for an Ivy bridge CPU upgrade.

But then again The Ivy bridge generation chipset might have some features people really want like sata express and/or thunderbolt.

Intel likes to dribble out new features on different boards to make it hard to plan ahead...those sneaky guys.

Haha, money is burning a whole through my wallet like you wouldn't believe. I'm trying to hold out for Ivy Bridge but it sure isn't/hasn't(been) easy.

It would have been awesome if SB-E were 22nm :p I'm probably going to upgrade when the IB come out... I'll decide then if I want SB-E 2011 vs IB 1155

I wonder if some of the lga 2011 motherboards will have 8 memory slots... 8x4GB memory would be awesome :D

finding a mainstream program/game/os to use that memory properly would be equally as awesome

Nice looking board :rockout:

Just one thing, that PCI slot looks so out of place for a board that will be released in the 2011~12 time frame, reminds me of some boards that still had ISA slots when ppl had moved from that standard many years ago :p

In my particular case, I'm just gonna wait till Ivy Bridge is released, I believe my SB rig should be enough until then, no need for SB-E :)

Meh, that kind of board isn't really meant for general purpose computing or even gaming really. It'd really be best mainly for servers and heavy memory/CPU demanding programs.

Consumer product=

Now that's much better!

Yeah, you're right, are those serial ports or VGA ports on the back panel on that previous GB board? must be a board designed for an specific purpose

Only 4 memory slots though, not that it matters much, since Win7 Home 64bits only addresses 16GBs, and that should be plenty enough for a couple more years :) Unless you're into professional video or photo editing, in that case Win 7 Pro can address orders of magnitude more RAM, but for gaming... nah... 16GBs should work until Win 8 and eventually TES VI are released

Thanks for the pic :rockout:

If i'm shelling out for a 2011 board I'll be damn sure that it will have all 8 memory slots available.

I already have a 6x4GB set, that is why 8 slots would be good for me =/

Meh. I'm holding out for the updated SB-E chipset and 8c16t cpus. 16 threads and 16GB here I come!

Side note: Wish there was a better roadmap picture.

4 slots is plenty for me....... 8GB memory sticks are already available, i doubt most people would need more than 32GB of memory for a few years.

paying premium for 8 slot mobo is probably easier than paying premium for 8 GB sticks.

Would the average person need more than 4x4 for 16GB's though? I doubt it. By the time we need more than 16GB, the price of 8GB will be the same as 2x4GB.
