AMD Catalyst 11.8 WHQL Driver Suite Released

AMD today rolled out this month's major Catalyst software suite release, Catalyst 11.8 WHQL. The software provides the latest WHQL-signed drivers for AMD Radeon GPUs, AMD accelerated processing units (APUs), and AMD chipsets with integrated graphics. This release sees the fusion of AMD Overdrive System (CPU) with GPU overdrive. Both AMD processors and Radeon GPUs can be tweaked using a single application in the Vision Control Center. CPU Overclocking in Vision Center, however, is only supported on Black Edition processor models.

In the GPU driver front, Catalyst 11.8 brings a few major performance improvements, including a 10% performance improvement for Crysis 2 DirectX 11, for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing modes; 8% performance boosts in FEAR 3 DirectX 11 with application enabled Anti-Aliasing; and a significant 20% boost in Call of Duty Black Ops for single and multi-GPU setups. AMD has redesigned Morphological Anti Aliasing (MLAA) code to boost performance of all applications with MLAA enabled, by up to 30%.

Are these newer than the 11.7 preview drivers or just a WHQL 11.7 preview?

Would be nice if AMD let us know when they release them. Full version software numbers within catalyst should also be made available.

Really? Look at the thread title it says all you need to know :shadedshu

Going to give these a whirl tonight, I was very impressed with the 11.7's. Very solid in most games, I hope these carry that on.

The AMD/ATi driver naming scheme has been the same for years. 11.8 (August, 2011) are newer than 11.7 (July, 2011). Catching on yet?

Yes the 11.7 release seemed to have fixed my issues. Almost afraid to try these 11.8's...

I just bought the XFX 6870 last week and was using the preview 11.8. Since i installed the official version i noticed higher frame rates in games like Fable 3, Red Faction and Mafia 2. I have not tried Black ops as yet but i am sure they are true to their word about the increased performance. AMD ROCKS.

I just finished testing out Crysis 2 to see if these driver's have any effect:p and I can tell I did get a performance increase and gameplay feels slot more smoother with an occasional slowdown here or there but this is with all settings maxed out at Ultra including DX11 patch + High Res texture pack, I did how ever get weird facial anomalies (glitches:confused:) but meh;)

Made my text all blurry. As if cleartype was off. Especially bad in Thunderbird. I rolled back to 11.7. BC2 performance was down 10fps too.

Do you have Morphological filtering enabled? If so, try it without it.:)

Yes. That is the problem even with 11.7. Thanks so much for that, can you explain to me what that does?

Umm, I am not real good at explaining things, so, here is a link that might help.
Morphological Anti-Aliasing

Just me and my opinion: I don't like the results of using it... blurs some text in certain apps and makes some games, sort of, cartoonish (for lack of a better word at the moment).

11.8 for Toshiba/Sony laptops
Does this really work for Toshiba/Sony? Looking on the release notes:

- Toshiba® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
- Sony® VAIO® notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)

Yes it does. This is the "unnoficial" internal mobile driver. It lacks the system check the standard one has.

XFX 6870, been using 11.8 since btarunr post the drivers. No problems (upgrade install) and no noticeable performance increase. (Black OPS)
