Xigmatek Intros XAF Series 140 mm Fans

Xigmatek released its latest XAF series case fans, including the XAF-F1451 (black) and XAF-F1452 (white). The two are 140 mm (140 x 140 x 25 mm) in size, but are designed to fit the in the mount holes of both 140 mm and 120 mm cases (provided there's room around the fan frame). There are several selling points, starting with the wavy blade design that is claimed by Xigmatek to increase air-flow by 25% and reduce noise by 10% (compared to typical 140 mm fans spinning at its speed). The fan supports PWM control, and spins at speeds between 800 and 1300 RPM, with noise levels under 18 dBA. The motor uses copper bushing axis bearing, and is rated to have an MTBF of 150,000 hours. European retailer Caseking.de has them up for sale at €14.90.

Interesting. I see they've taken a page out of Noctua's playbook with the 140/120 mm fittings. Under 18db sounds great to me, I've always liked their CPU coolers. I wonder if their fans are just as good.

Wavy blades eh?

I'm more inclined to believe design is a marketing tactic rather than a performance enhancement.

true, the effective surface area for sweeping cant exceed the radius limitation. but this does make some difference to acoustic behavior of the fans.

Finally, a 140MM fan with both 120MM AND 140MM mounting holes. Not just 120 holes that require ridiculous adapters.

Atleat this fan is not as ugly looking (only physical appearance no comment about performance just yet) as a Noctua fan.

Look at image #3, sorry to burst your bubble, but you do need those "ridiculous adapters";)

Also I may be more inclined to be ZOMG this fan is sweet, if I didn't already see these in white on a HAVIK140:D

Never believe those values if they come from manufacturers, IMHO. The given decibel values are very often way under those measured in reviews.

The scale that manufacturers use is dBA, or an adjusted scale. Most reviews are done with dB ratings where no adjustments are made to appease the buyers;)

I think I may have addressed that;)
