Xbox 360 Most Popular Games Of 2011

Microsoft has revealed the top 20 most popular games played on the Xbox 360 in 2011 based on numbers of unique users logged into Xbox LIVE (Silver and Gold members). Note that this gives a different result to the total playtime for a particular game, which has not been disclosed here. Unsurprisingly, the Call of Duty series dominates the chart, but what is sure to irk CoD detractors, but make fans very happy, is that a massive five of those positions are taken up by CoD - that's 25% of the rankings. Even CoD4: Modern Warfare which was released way back in 2007 sits at a very respectable number 14. However, top games Battlefield 3 and Skyrim did very well nonetheless, sitting at five and six respectively, with only Halo beating them at number 4. Can you guess which CoD game hit the top spot before looking at the chart?
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
4. Halo: Reach
5. Battlefield 3
6. Skyrim
7. Gears of War 3
8. FIFA 12
9. FIFA Soccer 11
10. Madden NFL 12
11. GTA IV
12. NBA 2K11
13. Battlefield: Bad Co. 2
14. Call of Duty 4
15. Battlefield 3 Beta
16. Halo 3
17. Gears of War 2
18. Forza Motorsport 4
19. Red Dead Redemption
20. Call of Duty: World at War

Was Black Ops a surprise?

That's because the chart isn't only for multiplayer games. It simply counts the number of unique Xbox LIVE logins.

Going by the list Activision is doing it wrong. They need to release a new MW or CoD quarterly.

Not impressed, really :)
My only grief is that there should not be FPSs on top Console Game lists as practically they are forced to give you auto aim with joystick, LOL auto aim/scope where has competitivity gone?

Well there is "right" and then RIGHT!

If they did that they should just make a CoD MMO. Oh wait, they already kinda are with charging for a subscription service to Elite.

We all saw how fast UT died out when they went to yearly. CoD is gonna be doing the same. I know more people who hated MW3 than liked vs the other games. The reason I know for sure...I saw MW3 on sale during the holidays, some places $20 off. They never did with the past titles.

The franchise is worn out. Run on the same engine forever. Just doesn't work with FPS games. Reason Halo has stayed in for so long is because of the time between games, not to mention the fact each game does have a different feel to it even if the core mechanics are the same.

Im impressed that some of those games are so high, some of them only came out the tail end of last year like FIFA 12 and its already more played than FIFA 11 similarly the same for CODMW3. Those games have only been played for a few months.

Gears of War 2? Halo 3? People still play those?

Why shouldn't they? Those are great titles whichever year you are in, I know I still play them even after acquiring the successors for both franchises. Now what really irks me, seriously COD is more played than Gears 3? That just exposes how the general gamer lacks criterion when buying games...

They already confirmed/annouced a new CoD the day MW3 was released.

Now about that list. I could care less about game popularity. I'd rather play the quality games rather then the one where millions of 13 year olds run around on a 10x10 map "quick scoping" everyone and telling people how many times they did other people's moms.
