Unfortunatly 120$ for a PSU is a rape
IMO, for a higher-end (but lower power usage) computer, I won't mind paying the extra bucks for platinum, especially if electricity is expensive where you live (ie: europe etc) or you crunch 24/7 etc. I pay between 9 and 10.5 cents the kWh, so it's less of an issue for me.
Let's look at a few numbers quickly
With 30 000 hours of usage at an average of 50W savings (for 5 years), that's 1500 kWh, ie: the PSU pays itself and maybe more. Not to mention good OCs are easier with clean power.
For normal usage, it's maybe 12 000 hours of usage and say about 25W savings average, that's only 300 kWh, or between 30~60$ in 5 years time.
For normal usage it is debatable but on average it isn't that great of a buy, but for 24/7 crunchers etc, it definitively makes a huge difference
