More Alienware M17x R4 Details Leak
Building on the information already revealed in January, a new Dell-flavored scoop says that the upcoming Alienware M17x R4 (17.4-inch) laptop will offer three display options, one HD+ (1600 x 900), one Full HD (1920 x 1080) and one Full HD 3D. Moreover, this gaming-ready machine is claimed to utilize eDP for LCD communication.
The Alienware M17x R4 will be powered by Ivy Bridge processors, feature both AMD (Radeon HD 7970M) and NVIDIA (GeForce GTX 660M, GTX 675M) discrete graphics, and will be available in two color schemes - black and red. Still no word on its release but it should arrive in Q2.

What about AMD's HD3D? Wont Alienware make it available for those who choose the Radeon?
eDP is good..
I received my Alienware M17x R4 this week. For you tech geeks here is the specs I purchased: 3rd Generation Intel Quad core i7-3610QM proocessor (Turbo 2.0) 6mb cache 3.3 GHz. 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz. 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M. 750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s.
So I see posts where guys say "This friend of mine got one and it had problems"...I say BS! From the minute I fired up this machine, it blew me away! The graphics speed is incredible. I have run some of the most graphic intensive games (Tribes Ascend, Battlefield 3, Prototype 2 and Crysis 2). I have set the graphics levels as high as the games would allow. And they run flawlessly. The computer is not only cool looking and powerful, but my friends are all killing themselves to get a chance to play this beast.
Now I did buy some peripherals to accompany this machine" Cool Master "Sttorm" cooling deck. Logitech G9x gaming mouse (A++) and a Logitech G35 headset (A+). They really enhance the use of the Alienware M17x R4. So if you got the $$ and want a screaming machine...get the best.
Enjoy your Alienware though
I did alot of research before I purchased my Alienware ($1789). What I found was there are few choices for laptops in the gaming world. There were a few, but the cost was the same or more for most. Peripherals are just a personal choice. If I wanted a desktop...there is no way I would spend the money for Alienware. It's alot cheaper to just build your own. All-in-all this laptop has met all my expectations and exceeded some. I'm happy with it.
Trust me I have a 15" DELL with 1920x1200 resolution and I wish I haven't....
