PowerColor Radeon HD 7970 Vortex II Detailed Some More

In anticipation of the official launch, PowerColor has served up a fresh batch of pictures depicting its Radeon HD 7970 Vortex II Edition graphics card. Besides providing fresh photos, PowerColor has also confirmed that this new Tahiti-powered card will have its GPU set to 1100 MHz (up from the stock 925 MHz) and the 3 GB of on-board GDDR5 memory clocked at 5700 MHz (5500 MHz stock).

In addition to higher clocks, the HD7970 Vortex II features a dual-slot cooler with two fans (allowing for a little airflow adjustment) and three heatpipes, a backplate to speed up heat dissipation, 2048 Stream Processors, a 384-bit memory interface, a PCI Express 3.0 x16 bus interface, CrossFireX and Eyefinity support, and five display outputs (DVI x 2, HDMI x 1, mini DisplayPort x 2).

The HD7970 Vortex II Edition is expected to become available next month. Its price tag is still unknown.

We see two CFX thumbs and 8+6PIN power layout
but on the other two pictures just one CFX and a 6+6PIN

I'm confused...
Very much...
Or you're trolliing? or... wait...
Not all cards will do tri or quad-crossfire. So when you buy a card make sure at least one of them has 2 of those crossfire slots.

Now that's how you design a backplate.

Wait... so some HD7970s will come with one CFX connector and some with 2? And some with 6+8 power layout and some with 6+6?
That does not make any sense whatsoever...
Or... you guys keep trolling me. This isn't funny anymore guys...

Now that I notice closely, pictures 1 and 2 are of the HD 6970 Vortex II (notice the CrossFire bridge fingers).

Why are the heatpipes mangled?

Is this a sign of poor workmanship?

It looks like someone used pliers to bend the pipes.

That's not press release quality.

i'd grab one of these once the price stabilizes vs the 680. looks like a card that'll do 1200mhz easily, and quietly. the heatpipes do look a bit man-handled though.

real game performance is the same thing.
seams that the rumor for nvidia on using tactics for benchmarks to look better still stands.
for example 3dmark11

Hate it when the heat pipes end up on top or not covered, 80% of the time they are either horribly shaped or have no style to them :(
