Team Katana Japan Sets 3DMark 11 Extreme Record with 1747/7884 MHz @ 1.895V HD 7970

Team Katana Japan set a new 3DMark 11 Extreme Preset single-GPU world record using their Radeon HD 7970 graphics card clocked at staggering clock speeds 1747 MHz (core) and 1971 MHz or 7.884 GHz effective (memory). These clock speeds were sustained using volt-modding (to maintain the right voltage stable), and liquid nitrogen cooling. The volt-mod was designed to override the OCP (over-current protection), and over-heat protection of the graphics card's VRM. The target core voltage was 1.895V.

The setup went on to bag a 3DMark 11 Extreme Preset single-GPU world record, where it scored X3757.69 points, bagging 1st Rank in HWBOT's "GLOBAL 1X GPU RANK" and "Radeon HD 7970 rank". Find the validation here. The GPU remained in the range of -145.0 °C (idle) -137.0 °C (load). The rest of the setup included a Core i7-2600K clocked at ~5.00 GHz, ASUS Maximus IV Extreme (P67), and a 1200W PSU.

Maybe I am confused...but it appears this is stating that the GPU got colder under load than at idle?

btarunr... on to bag a 3DMark 11 Extreme Preset single-GPU world record, ...
Is it me or is this supposed to be Unigine Heaven extreme preset benchmark instead of 3DMark 11?

Also:
5 days ago – This card has already died after Heaven. GPU Core and almost all MOSFET were burnt out.
Said so in the HWBot's page.

Yes you are confused.

-145.0 °C (idle) IS COLDER than -137.0 °C (load) therefore seems legit to me.

Awesome job there, must've been fun to achieve and I imagine their faces when the card blew up just after the benchmark :D

also inb4 omg it's not 24/7

Nice score. Too bad it cost you $500+ to get it. I guess they are pros though

Vgpu1.630V(actual) and Vmem1.895V(actual)
Of course, 6 phase OCP-mod was done.
Fixed resistors(7.5K) are back side of the card.
There is several wrong information :)

LOL. It appears that it was corrected. The original article recited the load/idle temps backwards (see my quote above). Thanks to BTA for correcting this.

zotac GTX680 WITH AIR COOLED overclocking mode exterminate hd7970 ON ln2 cooled overclocking mode

yeh this comparison between 1425 mhz air cooled GTX680 vs 1747 mhz ln2 cooled HD7970 (-142 :laugh::laugh::laugh: )

ZOTAC’s Non-Reference GeForce GTX 680 Extreme Edition graphics card has been tested in 3DMark 11 at a core clock frequency of 1420MHz on Air Cooling

And here is score :toast:

Using the ZOTAC Firestorm utility, The user managed to overclock the GPU to 1420MHz/1650MHz while the memory ran at 6.6GHz. The GPU voltage was pumped to 1.375V to obtain the desired frequency. With this much overclock, The GPU managed to score 3974 Extreme Marks in 3DMark 11.

x3974 equal x4000 score with a air cooling getting 6% more score than LN2 cooled HD7970 with much more frequncy also with LN2 (about 22% more clock vs zotac gtx680).

i think CEO of AMD manufacture mr Rory Read may be suicide him self for this shity Scandal  -:laugh:

If your referring to the price than you are wrong, do you think they bought this card just yesterday for the price cut and got lucky with a golden gpu...

After looking at that hardmod on the card it made me wonder if anyone has come up with a pencil mod for the 7970 yet?

My name is Dave
mod shown is OCP/OVP, not voltage, those are not pictured, just the variable resistors are(top right of pic). Votlage hardmod info is out there though.

I am a little confused (not unusual) as the title and narrative state 3DMark 11 but the ss shows Heaven...
