AMD FX 8150 Cracks 8.80 GHz in New OC Feat

It is no news that AMD FX likes high clock speeds, even if they come at the expense of energy efficiency and heat. It's only when one such chips crosses 8.80 GHz (8805.64 MHz, to be precise), that it makes headlines. Thai overclocker "ksin" claimed to able drive the chip to its record speed using a base clock speed of 303.29 MHz, and multiplier of 29.0x. A scorching 1.86V core voltage was used. Other components include ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard, and 4 GB (2x 2 GB) of ADATA-made memory, clocked at 1417 MHz. Ksin didn't bother providing more details such as method of cooling, and that seems like a reason behind the CPU-Z Validation rejection.

Until more info is out I'd say it's just that, a "claim".

What´s the point for that OC with only 2 Cores?

I prefer mine @ 5.0 with full 8 Cores enable :rockout:

The point is to push it as far as it goes and it involves liquid nitrogen. No practical point in it though.

@1.86V Its probably gonna have a life span of about 30 seconds, In fact ksin probably already chucked it into a trash can and its probably being buried at a landfill site with the rest of the trash or heading to a furnace to be melted down to make coke cans.
FrickNo practical point in it though.
think of all the benchmarks that little CPU will burn through while its pumped up on steroids voltage and LN2 before its little heart burns out

2 cores? This OC is pointless! Bring out the cedar mills!

Point is to get max clock speed. This overclocking point is to set new record, not to get the best performance

I still remember the P4 days where people just gunned for maximum overclocks above everything else. Looks like the tables have changed, with Intel going for maximum work per cycle while AMD pushes for high clocks.

That's like saying a drag only car that runs on nothing but race fuel is pointless because you can't drive it on the street. Different people find different things fun to do. If somebody finds it fun to do, it isn't pointless.

yeah Intel fired that P4 designer and dumb AMD hired to continue the madness

seems hes stretchin the limits of that chip, then some 9.062 then 9.143 , not bad , no benches though:ohwell:

btarunr may need to update his thread , since it now way past the 8.80ghz speed

Still would rather like to see 7-8 ghz with all 8 cores enable...

nobody is going to get that high with 8 cores enabled in this generation of chips, and your not going to be able to run all 8 at that speed so why does 2 or 8 cores on matter.

Anyway its done in particular to stay within range of what the chips TDP allows prior to its pre set shutdown point, also all 8 cores enabled would have drawn 2-4 times the power from the motherboard requireing IT to be nitrogen cooled or supported via addon VRms

Its his passtime freezing chips then burning them to shreds he isnt trying to encourage others to push theirs, and its no different then you pissing your money up the wall at weekends/ or str8 after work as the case may be.

ditto

24/7 usable overclocks impress me far more.

congrats you got it to 20Ghz with .5 of 1 core Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol!

8.8ghz yet its still slower than an i7 running at 4.5ghz.

amd really need to work on thier instructions per clock rather than the clock speed.

looks like amd stole the design plans for pentium 4 and just modded the netburst architecture a little.

This is pretty cool.

I really dont care about how many cores, the fact that the frequency is so high is impressive regardless.
