Doom 3 BFG Releases October 16th

The enhanced re-release of Doom 3 is coming just in time for Halloween, publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced. The "BFG Edition" of id's classic FPS will be available on October 16 on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The console versions will retail for $40, while the PC version will be $30. BFG adds Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil, and "The Lost Mission"--all optimized in 3D, 5.1 surround sound, achievements, improved rendering and lighting, and a new checkpoint save system. There's also an armor-mounted flashlight, "allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time."

The BFG Edition also includes the original Doom and Doom 2, making it the "definitive collection" for the series. Perhaps after this release, id will be a bit more forthcoming about Doom 4.

Why would ID possibly patch the game already? Carmack already said how much he doesn't care about the PC community with RAGE, he's all about Xbox now.

They should rework Doom 1 with a modern 3D engine, because they don't make games as they used to.

Im quite sure some money hungry company (eg. Blizzard-Activison with Boobs Kotick or EA) will eventually figure, that easiest way to make money is to re-make old games.

Pretty much cause they are incapable of creating good games. Gaming industry lately is tragedy, I even thought about doing something else than playing games.. :(

Cause some older games (like Doom 1, Quake 1) are better than today games. Or I can use some heavy caliber as example. UT99 and Quake 3.

Nothing so far came even close to these two.. Today game makers cant make challenging game that is fun, or at least have competitive multiplayer.

And when that day comes, I will rejoice because I can play Wing Commander in an advanced modern engine. But, I do not expect EA to bring back my long time love. Hopefully at least one of the ones they bought up then killed which is quite a few. Heck some of their own IP like the Strike series (Desert Strike, Jungle Strike) I would love to see come back.

I own Doom 3, I bought it on launch day, and this really pisses me off. This is exactly why I pirate games. Shitty, greedy, lazy developers.

When Doom 3 came out the biggest complaint that most that bought it had was that you couldn't hold the flashlight and fire the gun at the same time. It was so bad that people actually made mods to the game to attach the flashlight to the guns. ID's responce was that they wanted it that way to add to the suspense of the game(or some shit like that, I don't remember the exact words). Now they re-release the game and advertise the ability to hold the flashlight and shoot at the same time as a wonderful new feature. F*(k them, I'll pirate this "new" game.

im with newteckie1 ere, ive boxed retails of them, THEIR SHOULD BE A DLC OPTION.

Im not paying twice, and i played the first game as was and the light got on my wick v often, a stupid idea thought up by a retard, when in real life anyone but a one armed man could shoot and light the way and even he would find some tape, how did they deem it sensible and tension building, it was anger building you fools >id

oh and how the hell does this shit get past tradeing standards, da vinci wouldnt have got away with a mona lisa wiv a hat on ie copied the first add hat sell for minter ,no one would have it that thats original would they, and at least when the film industry rebooted spiderman they actually bothered to make a new one ,not just gloss up the last shit, add a proper light(that should have allready been) and say done.(George lucas not withstanding)

This is an eyeroller. Why steam? So people who bought retail version in 2004 are no people?

Anyway.... All this bfg edition is a joke.

What, and miss the opportunity to milk the cash cow one more time?!

At the very least, Bethesda Softworks should offer it at half price to existing owners.

I liked that you couldn't use the flashlight and a weapon at the same time. You had to be aware of light sources. Now you will be able to run into the dark areas Leeroy Jenkins style and kill everything that pops out. It's going to be too easy.

I've thought about it for a while, and actually they are only charging $30 to PC players. Resurrection of Evil was $29.99 when I bought it on day 1 and it didn't take long to play through... If The Lost Mission is as long or longer with all the extras then it's not bad at all. :toast: Of course cheaper is always better, but if you can't afford to pay $30 then wait a few months and pick it up on a Steam sale. As for everyone who will pirate it... Don't whine about console ports when you don't support PC. And don't fool yourself it's always about the money! :toast:

In a horror/suspense FPS game with more than half of it completely unlit, saying you don't HAVE to use the flashlight is akin to saying you don't HAVE to use the gun.
