ASRock Z77 OC Formula Sets a New World Record
Behold, the new world record of CPU overclocking! The World's Legendary Overclocker Nick Shih has overclocked an Ivy Bridge Core i7 377oK processor to a mind blowing 7.136GHz with the newly released ASRock Z77 OC Formula. Breaking the world record wasn't easy. Nick Shih used ASRock Z77 OC Formula, the motherboard he designed specifically for overclocking, and applied liquid helium for cooling to set the new world record - 7.136 GHz!

Mind.Blown. Ah, but one of these CPU's is pretty much the great all rounder that wins on most metrics rather than just a suicide run under LN2/LHe...and the other is a bulldozer. On that note, here's an Edsel...
Now what do you do with a single core CPU ticking along at 7Ghz? :confused:

and if it does 7ghz its going to be a good 3d chip should do around 6.5-6.8 4c
For those who can't remember, it was an amazing board with great value that overclocks really well
Also it is only 1 core and 1 thread.
Thats like saying I have a V8 that dose 24,000 RPM but only on 1 cylinder.
when amd broke 8ghz it was only one 1 core as was the WR before it
Also the CPU bit- they were seeing how far they could push it, that is all, we all know that most dont have the time or money to run our cpus at that speed anyway.
In 2007, ASUSTek split into three divisions- Asus, Pegatron and Unihan, for the express reason of Asus divesting itself from OEM work and to spinoff and realise profit the assets. Pegatron (who absorbed Unihan) are now a seperate corporate entity.
Enough so that I'm gonna try one of these boards, even though I really don't need it.
I've had my eye on it ever since I first spotted them at NewEgg.
I've yet to see even a hint of a bad review, anywhere at all.
I have a SB i7-2600K running 5 GHz 24x7 on air. I'd like to match that with my IB i7-3770K and then see about 6 GHZ 24x7 on water cooling. No more than that, unless it's too easy.
I keep an eye on World Records but really don't care to go after one. 5GHz was my goal, now 6GHz is.
Haswell will supposedly use less juice and run even cooler so I may then go after 7GHz. On air, possibly, but I really doubt that'll happen. Just speculation of a cpu that's yet to be in full production.
I have no easy access to DI, much less LN or LH, so I'll stick with both air and water cooling and compete with only myself. It's much cheaper this way since I can safely OC to my own limits without risking an expensive cpu or mobo. And still have lots of fun.
Congratulations Nick Shih. You've apparantly designed one of the best motherboards ever made.
I'll be looking forward to your design of a Socket 1150 board.
