Corsair in Acquisition Talks with Blackstone Group Consortium Member

Even as Corsair is looking to raise $78 million through an initial public offering (IPO), with a share price of $13, the company is reportedly in talks with Francisco Partners, a tech startup-focused venture capital company, over its possible acquisition. Francisco Partners was part of the consortium, which was led by Blackstone Group, to acquire Dell. This came to light when CNN unearthed an regulatory filing (PDF). Another theory doing rounds states that Corsair and Francisco Partners could be exploring other options than a buyout. In 2011, Corsair reported a revenue of $455 million, with net income of $19 million. In Q1 2012, it reported $132 million revenue, with $3 million net income. Corsair specializes in a wide range of gaming- and enthusiast-PC hardware, and peripherals.

Corsair seems to be shaky in recent years like many tech re-labelers who have expanded into new market segments. (See OCZ as another example). With increased competition and a continuing difficult world wide economic environment, I expect to see more of this borderline companies sell or shutter their doors.

Way to go Corsair!!!! I hope you guys make a sale, you deserve it!!

Corsair still remains profitable, has a tonne of products, and some great staff working for them who, even after all these years, are still very much enthusiastic about what they do. A sale of the private company, and putting some well-deserved cash in the pockets of the owners is well due, and the only thing I worry about is that after purchase, I hope they keep all of the staff.

As far as I am concerned, this is the perfect time for Corsair to sell. Seriously, if I had access to the funds, I'd buy them myself. Very few companies are as well-placed in the market to weather any sort of storm, and are as ready to grow with the market.

FUD, for the most part.

I see Corsair as one of, if not THE most, respected companies in the enthusiast market... "re-branders" or not.

Their product lineup is literally exploding at the seems from its size at the moment and its all (99.6% of it, any way) top-notch quality stuff, regardless of the OEM, as it still has to pass Corsairs own quality checks and meet their strict guidelines for what should wear the Corsair name in bold letters.

Added to that, their customer service is some of the best in the game with a pretty much "no questions asked" policy that's also extremely friendly towards the modding community.

The price is a little on the high side, usually, but you do get what you pay for.... right? :toast:

Then why bother to comment if Corsair, in your view, is so bad? :shadedshu

I share a similar view to Dave.... I hope Corsair sell and make some money for the guys who've put the work in to make the company what it is today because they surely deserve it..

But, at the same time, I hope the level of customer service and quality of the overall image/brand doesn't decline when the company ownership takes a new direction.

It'll be a sad day for everyone in the PC modding world if it was to do so. :ohwell:

Good for Corsair, hopefully they don't change any of their staff and polices, every time I've had even the slightest issue they've been a great help. Even if I purchased the item secondhand and was looking to buy a missing part, they've sent it to me for free!

Great company with great products and service.

I absolutely agree with you, there are no bad Corsair products that I know of. Tt, CM, and most of the others have released dozens of crappy over-rated/under spec products in the past, it's only lately they've had to step it up, mostly because of competition from Corsair. And nobody else even comes close to Corsair's customer service department. There are stories about their amazing generosity all over the internet.

Corsair makes some good products. I've started planning out my next rig and i saw a distinct pattern:

Corsair Case
Corsair AIO Liquid Cooler
Corsair PSU
Corsair Ram

Wasn't intentional, was just looking for quality parts. I would have a joygasm if they come out with a full tower version of the 550D before I buy.

There is. Its the 900D ;)

I want them to release a slightly larger 650D with the shell of the 350/900D

Yay corsair!

I really like corsair, their customer support is just amazing, i was getting bluescreens from my ram (memory management) constantly and i had the early version h60, which gurgled (had my pc over a year and a half), and i emailed them and within a week sent off my stuff and got brand new ones back.. The corsair vengeance ram im using is rated 1333 not overclocked and 1666 overclock and i set it to 2100 in the bios and have done memory tests and its super stable and got an upgraded h60 with better fan, thicker piping and all. If i could redo my pc id would definately do most things i could corsair.. It just always looks good, performs to a high standard and just always works, even if it doesnt work, with the lifetime ram warrenty and like years cooler guarantee just send it back and get a brand new one ^^

I do own Corsair products, but they keep disappointing me. It's not all rosy sunshine. I've had maybe 4 of their CLC products. Those are hit and miss. Terrible fans on all of them, sometimes a bearing like pump noise. And my 550D problems are a bit much to get into, QC and design issues. I don't like companies that take my money in exchange for half-assed products. I did like my HX850, but it failed on me and there's only so many metrics for me to judge a psu by and failing is def. not a positive.

I would presume their ram is still good. Harder to screw that up, but I couldn't say since it's more than twice the cost of the competition. Really as a company I could take it or leave it, but I guess my opinion is skewered because they've been successful in making me buy their stuff over other brands. Maybe everybody sucks. I know my last case, a Lian Li, was 10x better quality, but behind the time on features.

The Suckness Quotient
LAN_deRf_HAMaybe everybody sucks.
Probably true, but some suck much more than others. Corsair, not so much. I think they want to suck as little as possible, because they constantly improve their designs and seem to listen to customer feedback. In a suckass world, being just a little better than the competition is enough for suck-cess.
