Acer Announces Aspire M5 with Core "Haswell"

Acer today expanded its M5 Series line of notebook computers with the M5-583P-6428. Continuing to combine powerful performance, long battery life and outstanding value, the M5-583P brings the following new features to the M5 Series, including "Haswell," the 4th Generation Intel Core i5 Processor, Intel Wireless Display technology (WiDi) and a powerful sound system. Available now, the M5-583P-6428 is offered exclusively at Best Buy throughout the United States.

Less than one inch thin, the new M5-583P also sports a new metal chassis with clean modern lines. It also features a "soft touch" finish on the bottom, adding a touch of sophistication and making it easy to grip and carry. Its silver aluminum surface includes a brushed hairline finish. Its backlit keyboard adds a cool subtle glow, helping to guide fingers when typing in dimly lit areas. A high-definition touch screen display with edge-to-edge glass completes its contemporary look.
In addition to the performance and power management benefits of Intel's 4th Generation Core i5 processor, it includes 8 GB of memory, a 500 GB hard drive, and a PowerSmart long-life 4-cell Lithium Polymer Battery (3560 mAh) providing a solid combination of performance and up to 6.5 hours of battery life. In addition, the PowerSmart battery can go for 1,000 cycles, lasting up to 4 years(3).
"The new Acer M5-583P-6428 provides consumers with a great package of leading technology at a very affordable price," said Scott Ledterman, vice president, U.S. consumer sales. "It's a compelling solution for those wanting the latest and greatest features without breaking the bank."

Key Entertainment and Audio Features
The M5-583P-6428 includes a 15.6-inch HD 10-point multi-touch display, maximizing the efficiency and fun of using Windows 8. It's the perfect display size for watching movies or videos and viewing photos. For those who would rather connect to a big screen TV for a more cinematic experience, WiDi makes it easy to connect wirelessly, or it can be connected via an HDMI port. A high-def webcam provides high pixel density for amazing video image quality.

Acer has also included a premium sound system on the new M5. In addition to Dolby Home Theater v4, it includes four 2-watt speakers on the front of the system, which makes the audio loud and clear with minimum distortion.

In addition, the new M5 features Acer's audio technology package, Acer Purified.Voice. This takes voice input to the next level with a combination of hardware (dual-array mic) and software (voice recognition and audio processing). It ensures webcam/video chats, conference calls, VoIP calls and voice commands are always crystal clear. It can track and recognize the voice of the speaker wherever they are and makes sure there is no volume reduction of their voice as they move away from the notebook. It also eliminates background noise including keystrokes, so the speaker's voice transmits clearly while voice recording or speaking, even while typing. It improves and exceeds the requirements for voice control programs.

Instant Connect Makes Computing more Convenient than ever
Featuring Acer Instant Connect, the M5-583P connects to the Internet four times faster than notebooks without it. The technology remembers previous Wi-Fi spots visited, so when they're in range again, the M5 instantly connects to the Internet, eliminating connect wait times. In addition, while the M5 is asleep but still in range of a Wi-Fi network, Intel Smart Connect makes sure the PC is constantly updating information. Open applications, such as Facebook and Outlook emails, are constantly refreshed and will already be updated when the system is resumed from sleep.

Availability and Pricing
The Acer Aspire M5-583P-6428 is available now at Best Buy stores across the U.S. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is $699.99 USD.

I'd be interested in a 14" version of this laptop if they offered it with the A10-5750 processor.

I doubt we will ever see any a10-5750m laptops. the a10 was released to oems in march, and only msi has used them in the gx series gaming laptops. and anandtech reviewed the a10-5750m, and found that while it was faster in some games, it was slower in others. And I assume it costs more than the trinity a10 (if the desktop versions are anything to go by).

Besides, weve seen that haswell is very energy efficient, and the graphics performance is much higher than the previous generation for the higher end 5100 models. so, amd's gpu performance lead has practically evaporated.

even if richland does get some machines, the only 14 inch laptops with the trinity chips were the toshiba l840d (now discontinued) and several hp laptops. even then, the 10 was not offered, only the a8. richland probably will be no different, even if OEMs do decide to make richland laptops.

That is true with the Iris Pro, which are found in the expensive CPU's. And looking here, all GT3 parts will be found in >$300 CPU's, which is WAY, WAY more than ... anything AMD has really.

intel's hd 4000 was only about 20% slower than the a10-4600m in gaming. the hd 4600 gpu is roughly 30% more powerful than hd 4000. and hd 4600 will be showing up in sub $200 cpus.
