Radeon R9 290 (non-X) Launch Date Revealed

Around all the buzz surrounding the Radeon R9 290X, we're ignoring its smaller, more affordable sibling, the Radeon R9 290 (non-X). It's being reported that the SKU will be formally launched on the 31st of October, 2013. From leaked AMD presentation slides, we know that the R9 290 is based on the same 28 nm "Hawaii" silicon as the R9 290X, but with a lower stream processor count, standing at 2,560, and a proportionately lower TMU count, at 160. The rest of the components on the chip are untouched, it still features a 512-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. The GPU core is clocked up to 946 MHz, and memory at 5.00 GHz, churning out 320 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The leak also highlighted the review NDA lifting time for the R9 290X, which is tomorrow.

This might be more realistic:

http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/32915-radeon-r9-r290x-aims-at-$549-pre-tax-price

€649 for the X

My guess is it may depend on how the reviews look and and the pricing will follow.

expecting $650 more or less included taxes and (maybe) average mark up by retailer (around 7 Millions Rupiah :wtf: ) in our country. Hence, It would cost totally around 800$ with its full water block. It's not bad, though

Think you already missed that point. I replaced 5870 CF with a single 7970, and experienced little to no performance lose when running stock at 925/1375(yes, I checked my actual FPS and compared them). When OC'ed to 1150/1425, I'm pretty sure I'm real close to that 30% mark.

I do plan on getting a 290 or 290x, depending on cost/performance, to replace my 7970 with. At 1600p, even with the OC, my 7970 is starting to struggle with newer games (25-30 fps in Crysis 3 with high settings for example). Looks like tomorrow I should start getting the info I need to make that decision.

I can fully understand that, and that is exactly why I replaced the 5870 CF when I did. I was able to sell the 5870 cards for, IIRC, $275. My 7970 only cost me like $150 or so "out of pocket" after selling the 5870 cards.

Yeah, tired of regurgitating rumors...

Speaking of...I also do not think it will be an $850 card like that says either. In the states we have seen listings at $729.

Question is, why would they release the 290 a week after the 290x?

I guessing, and hoping, that it's a much better deal and they want to get as many people as possible buying the 290x first.

I'm hoping it's one of two things-

1. The different between the two cards are is so small that with OC'ing, the 290 can come very close to matching a OC'ed 290X, similar to how the 7950/7970 are

2. The 290 is unlockable to being a 290x, like the 6950/6970 were.

1. Quite likely.
2. Not likely at all.

WCCF TECH -Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Officially Costs €499.99, €519.99 For Battlefield 4 Bundle – Available Tomorrow
Sapphire would launch a stand-alone variant of the Radeon R9 290X which would feature the reference specs and will retail at the €499.99 price while the Battlefield 4 bundled version would retail for a little more at €519.99. It seems like Sapphire is using their company sticker on the stand-alone version which makes it look unique from the other R9 290X crowd which are re-using the reference stickers and design over and over again.
