Panasonic Announces Updated Toughbook CF-C2 Semi-Rugged Convertible Tablet PC

Panasonic today updated its Toughbook CF-C2, one of the most durable and flexible business convertible PCs on the market, to help mobile professionals work faster and for longer. With increased processor and graphics performance and longer battery life, the semi-rugged Toughbook CF-C2 with Windows 8.1 Pro is the perfect mobile worker companion whether in clamshell or tablet mode.

Designed for mobile workers that need to multi-task, the latest Toughbook CF-C2 has 4th generation Intel Core technology. With reduced power consumption, the Intel CoreTM i5-4300U Processor with Intel Turbo Boost Technology also helps improve battery life (up from 11 to 14 hours) and improves standby time, ensuring workers can leave their device in standby for longer for fast boot and response times. Storage options include 4 GB RAM standard, extendable to 8 GB and 500GB HDD standard and 128 GB or 256 GB SSD optional - making the CF-C2 one of the most versatile and powerful devices in its class.
The new device has a capacitive 10-finger multi-touch display that can be used in both clamshell and tablet mode to make the most of the 12.5" HD screen. The screen comes standard with IPS technology allowing extra wide viewing angles, strengthened glass, high contrast ratio and 500 cd/m2 high brightness paired with a Panasonic anti-reflection layer.

Other improvements mean the Toughbook CF-C2 is optimised for connectivity whatever the location with the latest Gobi 5000 4G module, Bluetooth v4.0 and Wireless LAN IEEE802.11a/b/g/n.

Fully equipped and flexible
For users needing to video conference or capture photographic images of documentation in the field, the CF-C2 is equipped with a HD 720p (still image Max. 1280 x960) front web camera and the optional rear camera has been upgraded from 3 to 5 megapixels.

With a variety of business expansion options and configuration slots, the CF-C2 can be tailored to perfectly meet the needs of the workforce. Ideal for field and service engineers, an optional serial port allows diagnostics and measurement legacy devices to be connected to the Toughbook. In addition, other business options can be added via the flexible configuration ports, such as VGA ports or modems.

In industries where security and information protection are mandatory, such as healthcare, the CF-C2 can be equipped with a near field communication or up to 2 smart card slots (1 x full size / 1 x half size). vPro is a standard feature that allows for easy IT management of the device. Computrace security features are also supported.

The Toughbook CF-C2 features a bridge battery, which enables hot-swap main battery changing without powering down the device, offering seamless usability. The standard 6-cell battery configuration will deliver approximately 14 hours operation (Mobile Mark 2007, 60cd/m2), and the 9-cell high capacity battery provides approximately 19 hours of use.

Latest operating system and migration path
Equipped with the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro operating system, business customers can take advantage of the latest improvements in user functionality and the enterprise benefits of Windows 8.1 operating system. Windows 7 downgrade options are also available. With Microsoft extended support for Windows XP ending in April 2014, the latest Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 versions also offer a smooth migration option for businesses looking to upgrade hardware.

Built to last and for ease of use
The semi-rugged CF-C2 has been designed to easily deal with the knocks and scrapes of a busy mobile worker's day. The device can withstand drops of up to 76cm (30inch),6 angles, comes with a water resistant keyboard and touchpad and strengthened glass on the LCD.

As well as the tablet and notebook operational modes and its enhanced triple-hinge system for even more stable operation, the CF-C2 comes with an ergonomic and removable, triangular hands-free strap making the device easy to hold and operate with one-hand in any position - portrait, landscape or anywhere in-between.

Yeah that is a bit of a drawback (or, given the pricetag, a giant drawback), especially with Windows 8. But still.. :ohwell:
