ASUS Announces Z97-WS Workstation Motherboard
ASUS today announced the Z97-WS motherboard for workstations. Based on the Intel Z97 chipset, the Z97-WS is tailored for extreme graphics processing to cater to the requirements of design industry professionals and gaming enthusiasts. It features PCIe Gen3 4-Way Graphics Power with NVIDIA GeForce SLI Technology and AMD CrossFireX on demand; as well as advanced and efficient power solutions with integrated Dr MOS MOSFET, ultra-durable 12K solid capacitors, along with exclusive ASUS ProCool power connectors and Beat Thermal Chokes.

The only other thing I'd have liked to see (especially given there is presumably a PLX bridge chip in there) is a PCI-e G3 x4 M.2 port like the Asrock E6 has.
Still it's always going to be a compromise and this board seems to have the least of them. ;)
Now when can I buy it and a CPU to put in it (DC)?
The Devil's Canyon 4790K is being released on 6-2-2014 or soon after.
If the 4790K reviews look good, it'll be very tempting to upgrade, even if just to enjoy a new overclocking experience. We're all bored as hell with the status quo, so I predict a record-breaking sales frenzy in June.
I actually like the Z97-Deluxe better (same price, $289) , it has more SATA ports, and I'll never run more than 2 video cards anyway.
I almost thought Asus dropped their "TB_Header" implementation for their ThunderboltEX II card with this generation of motherboards but I guess not. They just changed the five pin socket it connects to on the motherboard (which probably requires a new cable or an adaptor cable). This one is located between the PCIe x4 slot and the third PCIe x16 slot.
