EIZO Unveils the FlexScan EV3237 31.5-Inch UHD Monitor

EIZO Corporation today announced the release of the FlexScan EV3237, a 31.5-inch 4K IPS monitor with a 3840 x 2160 native resolution. The FlexScan EV3237 incorporates ecological features, visual ergonomics as well as picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture to offer advanced functionality for offices, control rooms, gaming, and CAD/CAM.

The FlexScan EV3237 uses an LED-backlit IPS (in-plane switching) LCD panel with 178° viewing angle that minimizes color shift and contrast changes when viewing the screen at an angle. The maximum brightness is 300 cd/m2 and contrast ratio is 1000:1.
The FlexScan EV3237 comes with two DisplayPort (ver. 1.2), one HDMI and one DVI dual link connectors. These multiple input terminals allow several picture-by-picture configurations including splitting the screen into two, three, or even four sections. 3840 x 2160 resolution display at 60 Hz is supported by either DisplayPort connector.

With Picture-in-picture, the content from two signal sources can be viewed at once as a main picture displayed in a full screen and sub picture displayed in an inset window. The sub picture can be displayed in two sizes and positioned in any of the four corners of the monitor.

The brightness dimming methods of conventional LED-backlit monitors cause many users to see flicker which results in eye fatigue. EIZO uses a hybrid of DC (direct current) and high-speed PWM (post-width modulation) technology that makes flicker unperceivable even at low brightness levels without drawbacks such as compromised color stability. For dimly-lit work environments, brightness is adjustable to less than 1% of the maximum.

An EIZO-developed feature called EcoView Optimizer 2 saves up to 30% on energy consumption by reducing the backlight brightness and increasing the gain on screens consisting mostly of dark content. Image quality is maintained because the reduction in brightness is almost unperceivable.

Auto EcoView automatically adjusts the screen's brightness in accordance with changes in the ambient brightness. It trims power usage while reducing eye fatigue that would otherwise result from a screen that is too bright or too dark.

A presence sensor called EcoView Sense 2 detects when the user leaves the desk and automatically switches to power save mode. When the user returns, EcoView Sense 2 powers the monitor on again. This feature detects both the user's movements and body heat for increased accuracy.

Two EIZO-developed software programs called ScreenManager Pro and EIZO Monitor Configuration simplify screen adjustment. ScreenManager Pro lets users adjust color and EcoView settings with the mouse and keyboard instead of the on-screen display menu. It also offers multi-monitor matching which allows adjustments to be applied to all FlexScan monitors connected to a single PC.

EIZO Monitor Configurator lets system administrators control the settings of all FlexScan EV monitors with a USB connection. Adjustable settings include picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture.

Five preset modes are included - sRGB, Movie, Paper, and two modes with user-adjustable settings. Paper mode reduces the amount of blue light to help prevent eye fatigue.

Additional Features
  • Super resolution function improves image clarity when displaying at non-native resolutions.
  • Ergonomic stand with 139 mm height adjustment, 40° tilt (-5° - 35°), and 344° swivel.
  • 1-watt internal speaker and a headphone jack.
  • Zero watts of power consumed when the main power switch is off.
  • Overdrive circuit with 5 ms gray-to-gray response time for smooth display of moving images.
  • Energy Star 6.0 and TCO Certified Displays 6.0 compliance.
  • Available in a choice of black or gray.
Availability
The FlexScan EV3237 will begin shipping September.

Nice, another IPS and a decent response time. I am curious how much this will cost...

I've heard rumors of 800 dollars, but given the specs, and the fact that it's an EIZO panel, I'm not sure I believe them.

Solidstate89Like I said, I read 800. But I didn't believe when I read it, and I certainly don't believe it now.
Yeah, Eizo ain't cheap, but those specs are certainly impressive (and in-line for current premium ips 4k...ips 4k is absurdly expensive compared to everything else).

I would put that $800 price closer to the ballpark of the upcoming auo va monitors. I'll be really surprised/disappointed if ASUS (or a different manufacturer using the same panels) can't make both the 27 and 32 both squeeze in at least under a grand, if not closer to that mark, at least the non-argb (srgb) models.

For mere humans with a budget and distaste for TN, I think those will be the ones to watch for in the immediate future.

OctaveanIn some ways this reminds me of the upcoming 27" Asus PB279Q 4K IPS display which is supposed to be under ~$1000 USD. I've actually heard it will be about ~$800.

Not sure how a ~32" IPS would come in at ~$800 too though. I'm thinking more like ~$999 USD.

I've got $1000 ready in my pocket to go to the first manufacturer who releases a 4K IPS 27" or higher. Come on! Out with them!
