HP Announces the OMEN Gaming Notebook

HP today announced the HP OMEN notebook PC, a gaming PC that combines performance, portability and style in a package that is designed for gamers. "Gamers play to win and expect their PCs to do the same," said Mike Nash, vice president, Product Management, Consumer Personal Systems, HP. "The HP OMEN delivers the power to dominate with a stunning design to give gamers the ultimate gaming experience."

In gaming, performance must be balanced across a number of key attributes including the processing power to deliver fast, stutter-free frame rates, quick load times and great graphics. The HP OMEN is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M and Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor for high performance with stunning graphics.
Because most games are designed to run in full HD, the HP OMEN offers a 15.6" diagonal, 1080p touch-enabled display -- optimized for smooth frame rates and 72% color gamut shows vivid, rich colors the way games were built to be seen. The standard 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) enables games to load 2-3 times faster than traditional hard drives, while the optional 256GB and 512GB PCIe SSD drives offer load times that are 6-9 times faster than traditional hard drives. Customers can choose memory of 8GB or 16GB DDR3, and graphics memory of 2GB or 4GB GDDR5.

The industrial design of the HP OMEN was built around gaming. Because heat is typically the enemy of performance, the HP OMEN was engineered from the ground up to manage thermals. Dual fans pull cool air through the bottom of the system, pushing hot air through exhaust fans at the rear of the system -- keeping hot air away from the keyboard and the gamer's hands. Rubber feet on the bottom were engineered to channel col air into the dual fan inlets and prevent hot air from recirculating back into the notebook, so the HP OMEN will stay cool even through marathon gaming sessions.

At only 19.9mm thin and 4.68lbs, the HP OMEN is portable and sleek, with a chassis CNC milled from solid aluminum, and anodized with a black finish. The custom chrome hinge was designed to elevate the display out of the way of hot exhaust air, with tips blue-coated to echo the racing look of titanium exhaust pipes. To keep clear of precious mouse and accessory real estate on either side of the PC, all ports have all been placed in the back of the device. Ports include power, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, and 4 USB 3.0 jacks; an Ethernet dongle is also included.

Optimal Functionality with Unique Customization and Visual Effects
When you game, the keyboard can be your feet, your weapon, or your magic wand, so each element of the HP OMEN keyboard is optimized for gameplay. The force profile of the keys has been tuned for a crisp and precise feel, the key spacing and travel is optimized for accurate, fast keystrokes. The keyboard also includes six programmable function keys that can be customized to the unique features of whatever game you are playing so the spells, weapons and action you need to win are always in an easy to reach location. You can quickly find the keys you need with the customizable backlit keyboard with seven zones of multicolor lighting. HP OMEN's Beats Audio speakers also have multicolor lighting that can be customized and set to respond to the audio of games, music, or movies.

The included HP OMEN Control software makes it easy to assign shortcuts to the programmable function keys, customize the multi-zone lighting, and allow gamers to turn off the trackpad or disable the 15.6" diagonal touchscreen to suit their gaming needs.

This looks good. It's much thicker than it appears though, those edges are just design elements as the laptop is more like a normal 15" than a slim one. Still I like it.

Why not just call it ""ominous"? That would be more appropriate.
