Edit: hmm it's quite expensive in states, in europe dell cost approx. 450€ inc. VAT. Newegg had one with $770.
Interesting if it is since I didn't even know they had anything new. Honestly when it comes to 4K I wouldn't recommend buying the older models since improvements are being made. A new Dell 24" model would be advisable since the old one used MSP due to its older scaler. SST would be advisable.
Still 24" seems a bit too small for 4K or at least too small without scaling in Windows and OS X. 28" is IMO usable without scaling but 32" would probably be about the ideal minimum size for 4K and 5K without scaling.
Generally speaking though, I'd take the Dell over a Viewsonic. I've had a umber of Viewsonic CRT monitors which were fine. However, I have a VX2235wm that started to go bad (probably back light) and a Viewsonic N3250w HDTV which clearly had a power supply issue related to poor quality capacitors.
Having said that, Acer has the B326HK which is an interesting 32" 4K monitor out now around the ~$990 USD price point:

Edit:
Its IPS (for those purists that simply must have IPS) but there is no HDMI 2.0 support which today makes it feel a little dated and no FreeSync support.
This is probably the monitor I would get considering all the user reviews I have read were quite favorable.
