AMD Releases Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.3

AMD released the latest version of Radeon Software Crimson Edition, its software suite which provides drivers and system software for Radeon GPUs and IGPs. Version 16.3 improves performance for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" on Radeon R9 Fury X series GPUs by up to 16 percent (compared to version 16.2), and for "Gears of War Ultimate Edition," by as high as 60 percent on the R9 Fury X series (compared to version 16.2.1), and by up to 44 percent on Radeon R9 380 series (compared to version 16.2.1).

Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.3 also adds official support for the Vulkan API; 2-display Eyefinity, an accessible CrossFire status indicator, a new power-efficiency toggle for Radeon R9 300 series and R9 Fury series GPUs. With version 16.3, AMD is introducing the XConnect Technology, a new standard for external graphics enclosures over not just high-bandwidth interfaces such as Thunderbolt 3, but also the more accessible USB 3.1 interface. AMD is providing the software ecosystem that lets you plug-and-play external GPUs for instant boosts in performance and functionality. AMD is also adding/updating CrossFire profiles for "Hitman (2016)", and "The Park."

It's ludicrous to suggest rebenching after driver releases. Usually a new gfx card review will cater for that.
What's far more important is the 60% GoW increase. Sounds like they found a way to bypass the Game works forced on issue?

Or the problem was actually on AMD's side?

Closed Microsoft Store environment with Nvidia hardware favouring SDK, makes it more likely AMD found a work around. However, if as reported older AMD cards didn't do as badly, there may have been some AMD refinements they hadn't initially used?

My guess is power/clock scaling.

Does the Power Efficiency switch work for anyone? It disappears after I click on it.

Its only for R9 300+ according to the topic.

Yea, there was bound to be a way to fix it because I heard similar results that mostly the Fury's were performing horribly in it and even the 390X and older were performing better (Though still pretty bad). Hopefully this will at least make it playable for those who want to play it.

Have not tried it yet, will give it a try sicne there is some improvements on Rise of the Tomb Raider and I have not gotten very far in it yet.

Flashbacks to around almost this same time of year with another request to re-bench a minor Catalyst change. W1z punked us all saying he was quitting. Scary fun times!

Does anyone know where crimson saves per game overdrive profiles? I'd like to back them up so if I do a DDU uninstall I can hopefully just copy them back.

I have to keep global overdrive clocks at stock and overclock with per game profiles to avoid getting black screens every time I boot into windows so that's why I'm not using afterburner before anyone asks.

The latter is plausible if the Tonga/Fiji issue with Hitman is wider ranged than that single title. Older GCN revisions such as Hawaii seem mostly unaffected on the performance side of the driver, yet the later cards are exhibiting what appears to be driver related performance issues. From PCGH's mini-performance review:
Google translated:
The Framelock under Direct X 12 will remain in Fiji, also affected is Tonga. In Hawaii, however, the frame rate as in DirectX 11 are unlimited. Possibly this is due to a driver error. Measurements can thus only of limited use, a retest would be necessary. We have AMD already informed. We complement our benchmarks at this point with the R9 280X, but the Tahiti GPU can not really benefit from Direct X 12, but it is probably also under DirectX 11 is already operating at full capacity. Moreover Hitman limited our settings as in the beta, with 3 GiByte memory we have only high texture details are available, in addition, we can select a maximum resolution 1920 × 1080. We also measured 12 Direct X with the HIS R9 390X IceQ X² / 8G a relatively strong overclocked Hawaii full expansion, the expected can zoom close slide to the GTX 980 Ti is. More graphics cards, including GTX 970, GTX 780 Ti follow morning. We also have hope that by then we will get presents an approach to the problem with the frame lock in Fiji and Tonga. The performance of Hawaii GPUs suggests at least a strong potential for performance gains under Direct X 12, unfortunately this can not currently validated by results with other Radeon GPUs .Overlooking the very brief performance ratio between Hawaii and GM200 Nvidia should at least be acknowledged that no custom Geforce driver for Hitman and Direct X 12 is released, while AMD and the customized Radeon Software placed 16.3 Non-WHQL available.
The same site's NFS mini-review also has the older GCN-arch cards (in this case a mildly OC'ed R9 390) more than holding it's own against the Fiji powered Nano.

I don't use those Profiles but I checked my list and it even has games I don't even have currently installed, but it is missing a fair few I do have installed. I am "Global Settings" guy so doesn't matter to me either way.

I downloaded it, nothing to note so far though I really have not used it. No problems from what I have seen but I have not seen any benefits either since I only tried 2 games of League last night.
