ASUS 'Eee Monitor' on the Cards

First talked about at Computex 2008, the newest entry to the ASUS 'Eee family' is the Eee Monitor. This product aims to give you everything you would expect a monitor to provide alongside display. The monitor in the pictures looks to be 19 to 20 inch, has a fixed web-cam, a 4-port USB hub, but what looks rather strange is that this 'monitor' doesn't looks like it has a D-Sub or DVI connector leading us to believe it's a self-contained PC a-là Apple Mac. The connectors behind show an ethernet port, a phone jack, standard sound jacks (line-in, line-out, mic), and the usual power-input. If it's meant to serve as a monitor, it must also double as a docking station, because otherwise there's no reason to have Ethernet and audio ports. The product also features integrated speakers made by Denon. It also features integrated data-card readers.

Most all-in-one PC's require USB keyboards and mice. It's time to let go of PS/2 anyway. lol.

it probably looks low rez because someone photoshopped a low rez image over the screen to make it look like it is on, and displaying something?

By the looks it's more of a monolithic PC, like the Macs. 19" is the screen size of this 'thing'.

It's just a brand issue. Probably this thing uses Intel Atom and other components those Eee PCs use?

well then that is fail. it cant be an all in one pc AND be a EEE PC monitor when it is measures 19 inches. asus screws up again. that is like calling my 17 inch laptop a EEE PC because i can hook up a usb mouse/keyboard and lan to it...

Rhino, this is strictly just a brand issue. It's exactly what Apple does with its "i" everything, so ASUS is trying to establish its own brand with consumers using the "Eee". What's so "fail" and "screw up" about that?

Maybe it is what it says it is. A monitor for the EEEPC. How about that? You notice all those USB ports? The EEE can be connected through one or two of them and can output video and sound just fine, and can also connect to the internet. The thing being that you don't really want to setup your cables everyday when you get back from work with your EEE. This way you only have to plug a USB and you're ready to go on a much bigger screen. It does look weird tho...

That's an interesting concept, although I don't think that's the case. The name "Eee Monitor" is a bit misleading though. If this is an all-in-one like assumed, then depending on how cheap it is this would be great for educational purposes. An Atom is much more efficient than regular desktop processors, not to mention an Atom is plenty of enough power to do web surfing and office tasks. I'm not sure if I'd want to use Matlab or Maple on it though...

Ok, lets look at this logically then.

Asus created the Eee brand to signify "Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play". The first Eee product was a notebook priced to compete and offer no frills mobile computing. Big hit, very innovative, made laptops 3 times the price look stupid when people actually thought about what they used them for.

Next up, the Eee Box - taking the Eee concept into the living room onto your LCD or Plasma via the DVI, a la Apple TV. Although it can of course be one, it maye more of a livign room media centre thingy than a desktop product.

Now we have this. If this is an all-in-one PC & Monitor, I think this could be their out and out desktop product rather than the Eee box.

It's ASUS brand to try and get everyone to be Computer friendly. They have been trying with the Eee laptops to give a child a laptop... Cost isn't bad and so forth. But the Eee line is just to make it for people that don't want to have it ALL... Like this monitor and their box.. Don't have to know the in and outs of the PC, just have one that works and so forth...
