Rockstar Games Announces Max Payne 3 for Winter 2009

Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled for a winter 2009 release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and PC. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Max Payne 3 tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

The award-winning Max Payne franchise put players in the role of Max Payne, a hard-boiled New York City detective with a penchant for violence, out to avenge the death of his family. The latest installment delivers more of the classic elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love, while moving the story of Max in a new direction.
"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.

Max Payne 3 will be available in winter 2009 for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and PC. For more information, visit this page.

Great! I love the Max Payne series. I can't wait for this one. 2009 is shaping up to be a good year for me gaming wise.

Wanted is coming out, and I hope it isn't a shitty movie game, a new Chronicles of Riddick is coming out, and now this. I'm actually excited about upcoming games, that hasn't happened in years.

I didn't like Payne 2 too much except for the story and the graphic novel. It felt too much like Payne 1, which I didn't like too much neither except for the same reasons. No real advancement between both. I could hope this one to be better, but at the same time I'd probably prefer they don't release any game at all and instead, they release a longer, even better graphic novel in a hard cover book...

It was cool for the first 5 mins, after that I actually used it very little. It was just one annoyance that I was forced to use in order to be able to complete some levels and reach the next wonderful cutscene/graphic novel, which is what I really liked about the games.

 Wow that is different. The previous Payne was brimming with way to much sunshine and optimism for my tastes. His family was brutally murdered but he maintained a positive outlook, which I can't identify with, but now something really bad has happened apparantly. At least we'll get to see a different side of Max Payne.

Well he did just get off of a major drug addiction and his whole family was killed. I think he looks pretty good for all that.

Assuming this uses the RAGE engine, this will be very nice. I'm currently playing the first one and it's quite good. Yet to play the second.

Would be cool if this used the Euphoria Engine too like GTA IV did, that was the character physics engine so it wasn't all shitty rag dolls it was really sweet animations. Would be a nice touch.

Bet the graphics will be sweet too, Max Payne came out in 2001 and while a bit dated, the graphics aren't bad even to this day and seeing how GTA IV and Midnight Club looked, I bet this will also be nice on the eyes.
