Ok, balance between the cores is fine. None of them is under more load than another, the load is constantly switched between them, as my system monitor can testify to.

Problem is, over the past 3 days the first core has jumped by 5C on idle, so it's 5C hotter than the rest of them.

Is my cooler coming off at the corner? I really don't want to take it off, last time I handled it my fingers were shredded up. Nice if blood's your thing, not mine though.

don't worry is just the processor with the most tasks, because windows can't spread tasks among 4 processors they take the first to do the work like gui svchost etc

but you never know is just a electronical device

If you'd read what I said, load is balanced between the cores well, and I'm not using Windows.

Even when all four are on constant load, the first reaches 55-57C, while the other cores top out at 48C.

My core 1 can be up to 7 degrees hotter than core 2. AMD 4600+X2

I wouldn't get worried about it.

What's concerning me is that it wasn't like this a few days ago :/

I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates handling that cooler. Even working around it is a pain in the ass, I always get cut up.

I wouldn't really worry about it. If the temps start to get into the dangerous range then worry, as long as the temps are still in the safe range don't worry.

Isn't this one a band-aided dual core 2 duo? If its 2 seperate dies, this is easily explainable...

The cores on my quad are somewhat similar.
Core 0 is 2-3C hotter than Core 1, and cores 2 & 3 are about 5C cooler than the first two.

I'm going to do a cooler reseat as soon as my new goop arrives.
I let you know if anything changes.

half true but i thing that amd use the waffer tech(one core over the other) but intel doesn't put on waffer allthough i am not very similar with core 2 quad tech. my first guess was that the os was win if it is anything else (linux\osx)i am not very sure that is very different.
don't worry i'ts not the cooler because you see the difference on 1 processor not on everyone(i quess) try something easy shutdown leave it for a while and check again if still have this behavior the start to worry (a little)if is not then it might be the architectect of the die

Intel originally made a dual core by just putting 2 cpu's on a single pc. They were seperate dies. They did the same for a quad core.

AMD has always used a single die for dual/quad.
