Would also agree that anything core2duo or older is old and any core i series is still fine.

Crazy to think core 2 cpus are that old. Shoot even the i5-2500k in my rig is over 3 years old. Still rocking strong though.

I would recommend lubuntu, it is a stripped down version of ubuntu and with a better UI. I am a huge fan of ubuntu myself but as others have said I don't like unity. I usually do a minimal command line install of ubuntu and then add lxde for the ui.

Looking to buy a celeron socket 1155 processor. Cores, speed, and sandy vs ivy don't matter. Just the cheaper the better, might also consider a Pentium. Can get a new OEM G1620 on ebay for $40 and retail boxed at $42 + tax on Amazon. So hoping that someone can beat that. Don't need a heatsink...
