ASUS GeForce GTX 670 Direct CU II TOP 2 GB

Yes, it will most likely lower the performance of the card but resolve the instability issues some users are experiencing. I mentioned that the reason for the instability is that the cards are boosting past the 1137MHz boost frequency advertised by Asus. In a way, those who purchased this...

ASUS GeForce GTX 670 Direct CU II TOP 2 GB

Just so everyone is aware: The TOP version of the GTX 670 DCU II has been recorded to boost past 1137MHz, which seems to be causing the instability and crashing for most users. With the above said, Asus has released an updated BIOS for the card that should improve stability. It can be...

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

Not sure as to why but this BIOS bricked my Powercolor 6950. I had to flash back to the original BIOS to get it to work again. :(

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

Could 1.6v actually cause artifacting though? Even if that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to modify the 6950 BIOS be3cause of the higher voltage?

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

The only reason I think the timings are tighter on the 6970 chips is because there have been multiple users experiencing an unstable card post-flash (mostly artifacting/rendering errors). This wasn't resolved by lowering the memory frequency to stock 6950 clocks but was resolved when they...

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

So the general concesus is to modify the 6950 BIOS so that the memory timings remain intact, right? My only concerns are that the device will not be identified as a 6970 and the voltage will be slighlty lower which could cripple overclock potential at this time. Would it be possible to...

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

I think the issue is that stock 6970 BIOSes have the memory set at specific timings. Timings that the chips on the 6950s can't handle. This is most likely why the artifacting doesn't go away for most people when they just lower the memory clock. Modifying the 6950 BIOS to unlock the shaders...

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

^^ This I've ordered two 6950s and I'd definitely like to try this out. It would make sense that the different timings on the 6970 memory chips would cause the artifacting as most users have decreased their memory clocks to stock 6950 levels after the flashing process and still experience...

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 6950

    Shouldn't be a problem. :)

AMD Radeon HD 6950 Can be Unlocked to HD 6970

Yeah, my Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.8 GHz bottlenecked my 5850 crossfire and 470 SLI quite a bit. Benching at 1680x1050 most likely leaves a hefty load on the CPU, so those high-end GPUs may not be stretching their legs. As you said, I guess that's why the 580 is faster on Intel based systems.

AMD Radeon HD 6950 Can be Unlocked to HD 6970

I don't mean to intervene but the 6970 will usually pull ahead in high resolution situations. Otherwise, the GTX 580 almost always performs better when it comes to lower resolutions. What res were you benching at?

AMD Radeon HD 6950 Can be Unlocked to HD 6970

Thanks for the welcoming Wolf. :) As for the 6900 series, I can't see the clocks getting too high (considering they're already high at stock) but hopefully added voltage will provide some extra headroom and maybe we'll see some 1 GHz+ core clocks out of these cards.

AMD Radeon HD 6950 Can be Unlocked to HD 6970

I was under the impression that the 6950/70s still have software locked voltage. If that is the case, in theory, with voltage support the 6970 should be able to reach much higher clocks than we have seen thus far. Oh, and hey everyone! This is my first post on TPU. I'm actually an avid OCN...
