I would prefer to go for a single powerful card over crossfire, but getting another for cheap and making use of my second pcie slot seems to be the best option.
If I could, id go for the 670/680, but they seem quite expensive. The costs of life seem to like cropping up a lot.
Just need...
I've recently just bought new internals for my old setup.
The new parts consist of an i5 2500k, asrock extreme4 z77, 8gb corsair vengance 1866 ram.
The card I have atm is an MSI HD6850 1gb clocked at 960cpu and 1100mem (on stock voltage- stable).
I was thinking of getting another...
So I have now ordered all the parts.
I went for -
Asrock Extreme4 z77 mobo (Are these all on pre-order in the uk?? Every site I have been to, these boards are out of stock and the soonest I will be getting one is the 18th - cant complain as it was only £110)
8GB Corsair Vengance 1866 cas...
I think it may be worth it. It has come a lot under budget. Even with the Extreme 4 im still £75, at least, under budget. Probably more once i've found the best prices online.
Contemplating selling my 6850 now and saving for something with more grunt :P
I think I actually will. It was my original choice and seems incredible value.
Too much choice makes me indecisive. Its the same when I eat out. Oh well. Everything turned out cheaper than expected!
I've done a lot more research and looking as shiny parts for this planned upgrade.
I have decided I dont want to go with ib. From what i've seen it is only a slight performance increase for less mhz, and the 2500k has proven itself to be a great chip.
I've revised my budget and as it stands...
Hmmm. After doig a bit more looking at the ivb chips, its made me wonder whether I should wait out a bit longer in order to see more reviews of the ivb.
Arg! decisions!
Cheers for the replys. Its given me some sort of idea!!
I've decided on the 2500k because of the good things i've heard about it. Im sure ivb is going to be great, but the 2500k is tried and tested and has great performance. I guess its cheaper too? Although another possibility is to wait and...
New upgrade to old computer
Finally i've saved up enough money to upgrade my system. Im only upgrading the cpu, mobo and RAM as I already have a decent enough GC, Hdds and soundcard.
Currently, and for the past 4ish + years (i think) i'm running a c2d conroe e6300 (b2). Its served me well...
After 3 years with my incredible 4770. I have finally got an upgrade. Managed to get an MSI cyclone Power card very cheap (£100).
I thought the 4770 was a good card (for what I paid for it), but this one is even better.
It isnt an oc version of the MSI but it still overclocks well. Ive...
I would go intel. But prices for the i3s are stupid here in the uk (from all the websites ivebeen looking at). I can get a decent amd setup cheaper. If I could get an i3 setup cheaper, I would go for it :)
