I think this is old enough to fit here. Powercolor Devil13 R9 290X (x2) 8GB It works but it will not display out of one DVI once the driver loads, so I believe one core is dying sadly.

    Sleeper PC Build

Got it working (mostly) today. Installed the Ryzen 5 1400 and slapped on a Pentium 4 sticker to the front. Probably going to remove the Dell branding. It doesn't look good. It plays games ok. Probably going to make this into my racing rig machine, it has enough grunt to play Assetto Corsa.

    Sleeper PC Build

That is a Radeon 7000 pci lol. This board has 2 pci slots. One beneath is a FireWire card. Now with floppy drive. Bought a startech 5.25 to 3.5in adapter. Only floppy drive I could dig up did not have a faceplate due to the design of the prebuilt it came from. However this awesome stl and...

    Now with dell logo.

    Sleeper PC Build

I've always liked the concept of sleepers. Now I have a project to scratch that itch. I originally was going to use an early 2000s Dell Dimension, which I may still. Ended up buying this case on marketplace. While it is old and basic looking, it's a very nice workstation full tower with 800w...

    X58 overclocking club

I only reference the QVL if I'm having issues with getting memory to work in a particularly picky platform and just want to know something that will work.

The QVL for your motherboard is likely only going to list support for ram that was available to validate when that board was released. It's unlikely that the compatible list will contain any new ram sold today, over a decade later. I suspect that's where patriots response is coming from...

    X58 overclocking club

X58 was a great platform in its day, and it's still very fun. To toy around with anymore my preference are 32nm chips. The extra 2 cores, better IPC, and especially the impressive overclocking headroom really make them fun. I've spent a considerable amount of time putting an aio in ice water...

Those are xeons with ecc support, which is a whole different ballgame. Much higher capacity ecc ddr3 sticks are and were available than the conventional unbuffered stuff on a non c series server board in discussion here. 8gb udimms were not a thing in 08. Not saying it can't work (I have...

    X58 overclocking club

I've heard of a lot of issues with x58 and 8gb sticks. The platform isn't really designed for it since sticks of that capacity did not exist when it came out.

    TPU's Nostalgic Hardware Club

That laptop is still working beautifully to this day, but I wanted more. So now I find myself burdened by way too many elitebooks after buying a lot listing. This is my "new" (16 year old) HP Elitebook 8730w, which is a "holy grail" model I had been seeking out for awhile. It has some dents...

    TPU's Nostalgic Hardware Club

Will test it in another older machine when I can. Really hoping it works but I'm not holding my breath. Yes it is a 560ti x2. This GPU had a couple of caps knocked loose on the board and I reflowed them today which didn't change anything.

Tested the 560ti 2win. It will boot into windows but frequently crashes to a black screen and fans ramp to 100%

EVGA GTX 560 TI 2Win "GTX585" https://www.evga.com/articles/archive/00656/default.asp Seems to be a pretty rare card. I got it cheap because someone listed it as a normal 1gb 560ti. Apparently tested to POST and display in the system BIOS but no further testing was performed. I will have to...

    TPU's Nostalgic Hardware Club

Guess that means it's possible to upgrade mine to a dual core. Will definitely look into it! I wonder if any higher clocked ones work. This sempron does not have 64 bit extensions despite being k8, I know only a handful of early semprons do. So x64 will be an upgrade, even if I don't think it...
