That NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce "Ada Lovelace" graphics architecture will feature significant increases in board power across the lineup, is widely reported, with the top AD102 silicon as the RTX 3090-successor allegedly drawing over 400 W. All that power drawn converts to heat that needs to be dissipated, and so we'll see proportionately larger cooling solutions. Kopite7kimi, a reliable source with NVIDIA rumors, claims that the reference design AD102 board features three fans.

To be clear, the reference design board is not the same thing as the Founders Edition product. The reference-design is an internal prototype NVIDIA develops the product around, and it rarely makes public appearances. The Founders Edition is a technically a "custom design" card from NVIDIA, that features higher clock speeds than reference, and is known for a high level for industrial design that sets standards for board partners and their custom-designs. We know from a May 2022 rumor and alleged photo leak that the Dual-Axial Flow-through concept of air-based cooling solutions, will make a comeback with Ada Founders Edition cards. and its design appears to have the usual layout of two large fans; unless NVIDIA somehow found room for a third fan. We'll know soon enough.

I have an exgf that had a 900 watt hair dryer, that had only one fan, dont see why the new card has to have three two. :D:roll:

Oh, dear, that's quite a lot of metal
Wait, it needs so because of heat - up to 420-500 watts. It is not a joke. Let's wait and see the actual retail cards once they hit the market in October or November...

Edit - clarification - the 420-watt AD103 is the RTX 4080, this here is about RTX 4090 and higher..

That heatsink resembles to some industrial radiators - it has so many fins, not like the pre-RTX 2080-age heatsinks.

Can't wait to see pics and tests of these cards from TPU owners.

Makes sense considering the power increase. And thus the last difference between AIB triple slot, triple fan coolers and FE's is gone.

In the tweets the guy says it's a 4 slot card for the reference. Any bets there will be a 5 slot card o_O

I think we're going to need a bigger case :D

If we continue like this i think there will come a time all high end gpus will come with waterblocks. As long as we have a standard for it and a reusable AIO, it would actually save money on all that metal and plastic.

Water cooling is the best way for a high end GPU imo anyway. Triple fan coolers are too noisy when gaming and pump too much hot air into the case.

What is even going on with that cooler? IDK if AI/MI helped design it to be the best it can be, it looks extremely difficult and expensive to manufacture.

hourglass shape. leads to unnecessary complications and so much of the fins get eaten away by the deeply embeded fans.
