The 13th Gen Intel Core desktop processor family has overtaken the longstanding processor overclocking frequency world record. In less than three months, the Intel Core i9-13900K has twice set the frequency overclocking world record.

The ASUS overclocking team officially set a new world record for overclocking, pushing the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K past the 9 gigahertz barrier to 9.008 GHz. Additionally, the team set new records in PIFAST (6.85 seconds) and SUPERPI 1M (3.822 seconds). Combining the Core i9-13900K with the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX - and a healthy dose of liquid helium - the ASUS overclocking team became the latest to showcase the unprecedented overclocking performance in Intel's unlocked processors. Working with partners like ASUS, Intel continues to provide desktop enthusiasts and gamers with the best processors and features for overclocking in the PC industry.

Time to fire up that brand new 3500W PSU, like, now,

it might be just enough to power this & my forthcoming RTX7090ti SuperDuper OC UltraMegaTurbo GPU, hehehe :)

-250 instead of -199 compared to LN2.

The good thing about this OC is that they actually where able to benchmark it. Most runs are how high can i get with validation. And with such temperatures the power consumption actually lowers.

First all, I don't want to belittle the achievement. They've pushed the limit as far as it will go, money no object, and I respect that.

This is also so far removed from a usable overclock that's it comical. I'm willing to bet that every non-essential function of the CPU was disabled, the stability of this OC was so fragile that it took multiple attempts to run full-load for 6.85s without crashing, and this was a cherry-picked CPU, RAM, and board from a decent number of samples, either paid for with infinite budget or provided (free of charge) as part of a sponsorship.

Would I like that job? Yes.
Is it relevant to 99.99999999% of us? Not even remotely.

You know that's not the point. If LN2 or helium rigs were even remotely viable everyone would be running one!

So impressive and yet so useless. Cause you're never going to be able to use 9 ghz for everyday use.

That's why I am normally more interested in highest possible core clock on air/water cooler. Ln2 is more of a brag than useful.

Money no object is the key to the Silicone lottery. And that's just it... it's not like they spent almost 600$ on a single i9-13900K (or was donated) + the rest of the rig - did their magic and BOOM - a new record. They get like 10 CPUs (or 30 if not 100 - whatever it takes) - BURN chip after chip - till finally they bumped into the one which proved to be capable of braking that record. My point is - skill has very little to do with breaking world records at OC. It's all about luck or enough money to buy your luck.

Can't say that i'm fond of this type of content - nor would i enjoy doing this type of job (where you destroy expensive stuff for little achievements).

X: How was your day?
Y: Just burned around 50 CPUs trying to break a new record and only needed 47 more MHz... Oh well, tomorrow's a new day - as we'll get another shipment of 50 CPUs.

That's one way to burn money fast... i guess.

IIRC the world record with AMD FX-8150 was done with liquid helium already back in 2011.

It's sad to see all of these weak ass, thread crapping, "but but if ya caint use it ever day it be useless" posts...as if you don't know the purpose of trying to hit an ocing wr. Yuuuup it's an erday rig.

There is skill involved for LN2. I doubt you or me would get past 8GHz with the exact same hardware.
Not saying everyone can do it - out of the blue (a first try attempt). But it's learnable. My point is/was - if you become an auto mechanic - with your hard-earned skill the results (fixing cars) are usually consistent. If you become a professional OC-er - you can still fail 99/100 times (less or more). Not only that... you may have 10 years of experience and still "get owned by a large margin" by someone with less than a month - simply because the one in question found a so called "golden chip (most overclockable CPU)". Might even find it on 2dn try (after burning just 1 chip) - while you already burned over 300 chips - and still not close to his results. As for an auto-mechanic with 10 years of experience - would be really unfair to compare their results (skill gap - being so huge). If you don't believe me - ask anyone who's into OC with LN for over a decade - if they consider OC-ing skill more relevant than the luck for finding a "golden chip". Case that's actually whom/what inspired above claims (while landing a new record the praise usually goes to finding a gold chip - not the skill gap).

Overclocking is a good sign of where future tech will reach as they refine the manufacturing processes, but it's also pretty clear this aint a normal every day overclock

Nah, since they always work with current generation and use unreasonable tools to achieve that (it's not like some OEM builder - would use their practice as inspiration to push a superior product on the market). I remember the record for a Pentium 4 overclocked at 8 Ghz. Just for fun at that was all there was to it (didn't help the industry in any way). A year latter Pentium 4 was ready for ready for retirement (replaced by a superior technology).

You want to put your money where your mouth is? I'd take Chispy anyday. It is not that hard to run benches under LN2 when you have gallons of it. This record was not achieved with LN2 though, it used liquid helium which is much more expensive. There is no skill here, sorry.

You want to put your money where your mouth is? I'd take Chispy anyday. It is not that hard to run benches under LN2 when you have gallons of it. This record was not achieved with LN2 though, it used liquid helium which is much more expensive. There is no skill here, sorry.
That's not how it works

We could give you liquid helium and you'd not come close to what these guys can achieve
