Based on news out of Korea, Samsung is said to be launching a 49-inch QD-OLED based monitor at some point later this quarter, although sadly, nothing was mentioned about what kind of resolution the display would sport. At the same time, Samsung is also said to be launching a 77-inch TV model, as the Elec suggests the two will be made from the same Gen 8.5 substrate.

This is because Samsung Display can cut two 77-inch and two 49-inch QD-OLED display panels from each Gen 8.5 substrate. Initially Samsung had apparently requested a 48-inch monitor, but based on the Elec's sources, Samsung Display declined, as it didn't make economical sense to waste the extra panel substrate. With a bit of luck, the new 49-inch display panel will feature a 4K resolution, as all of Samsung's QD-OLED TVs to date, are 4K. The only exception is Samsung's 34-inch QD-OLED monitor panel, which is 3440x1440, as we know. The monitor is said to be sold as Samsung OLED, suggesting that Samsung might dual source panels from LG Display as well.

This is exciting, I can't wait for more OLED monitors. I really like my 32" G5 Odyssey non Oled but would love it more if it was Oled. The HDR is nice but it doesn't hold a candle to my LG 65" C1.

Uhm, "monitor" ?
If they can change the word for TVs I wonder if you can do it for other things too.

Samsung, can we, please, finally get high-end 34-40 inch 120/144Hz 5K/2K or 5K/3K monitor?

I'm sure everyone here will hate it because it will lack 144Hz support or something equally silly.

It will be a G9 OLED, 5120x1440. This has already been anounced on CES.

A ~48" 21:9 OLED monitor could convince me to switch from using a TV.

I find 55" to be a bit too large for the 16:9 ratio. And I don't like going above 95* FOV because of the fisheye effect.

@Tek-Check None of those are 21:9. ;)

I mean, if my current TV failed (knock-knock), I would still consider such a monitor mainly because of the matte screen surface. I really dislike the glossy surface in TVs, because reflections are horrible if you have light in your room.

But to me the 21:9 aspect ratio is the biggest advantage of PC monitors, for both games and movies.

Ah, yes. I paid more attention to 48 inch. I am also targetting 21:9, at 5K.
They have a cutting ratio issue with motherglass, which restricts certain sizes.

I think the only panel that comes close is this one: 40WP95C-W

40", 21:9, 5120 x 2160, 72Hz at $1700-$2000. I'd probably already have one if I could justify buying the video card you'd want to pair it with to drive it (and if I didn't already have the 34" UW). Imagine the price though if it was OLED.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo all have their versions of it as well.

Brilliant idea for monitor, but DOA for $1,800 due to basic features being under par for this price:
- 72Hz (WTF!)
- low contrast
- grey blacks in dark room
- no local dimming, edge backlight is bleeding into the display
- no VESA HDR certification (fake HDR claim in the spec)
- brightness is only 300 nits
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/40wp95c-w

I'd like to see this monitor for the same price upgraded to:
- 144 Hz
- VESA HDR 1000 certification
- OLED panel (great contrast, no issues with greys, dimming and light bleeding)
- DP 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 FRL ports
- PD 3.1 for charging
