Reference NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Rumored to Launch at $749

According to the latest rumor coming from Moore's Law is Dead, the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 could have a higher MSRP than expected, and could launch at $749. Yesterday, another rumor pointed out that NVIDIA is splitting the reviews for the GeForce RTX 4070 on two dates, with reference models that are sticking to MSRP going out on April 12th, and custom, higher-priced versions, a day later, on April 13th. The same date, April 13th, is when the GeForce RTX 4070 should hit retail shelves.

According to Moore's Law is Dead, the MSRP for reference versions will be set at $749.99, which is a bit more than earlier expected, and just $50 less than the launch MSRP for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The custom versions, or "premium" as some now called them, could start at $799.99.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is also based on the AD104 GPU, as the RTX 4070 Ti, but has 46 streaming multiprocessors (SMs), leaving it with 5,888 CUDA cores enabled. On the other hand, it is rumored to come with the same memory configuration as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, featuring 12 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory on a 192-bit memory interface. The TGP is set at 200 W.

The performance is expected to land somewhere between the RTX 3080 Ti and the RTX 3080, or pretty much in line with the RX 6900 XT. Of course, a 50% bump in the launch price compared to the predecessor, the RTX 3070, leaves a rather sour taste.

50% more performance than 3070 for 50% more money, haha. I gather 70ti and 80 are selling well enough for them to persist with this nonsense, despite the headlines suggesting otherwise.

So they plan to launch a graphics card with RTX 3080 performance, three years later and for at least $50 more?

I can't find a way to express my feelings without resorting to swear words, honestly.

Well, I imagine they will reduce their price a bit at the last moment, but it still looks horrible, 700 USD is way too much.

It's funny, when 4k monitors are starting to be plentiful, the price of GPU will lake you think twice if you really want to go that route.... I'm glad I just bought a 1440p UW OLED, too bad they don't make OLEDs in 1080p, because upgrading your GPU will become a real financial effort.

Also will it really have performance between 3080 and 3080 Ti?

In 4K those two cards and 4070 Ti are very close:

750$ will translate to ~1200$ at my home country after tax.
A bit steep for a mid-range GPU so another easy skip.
Good luck all.

Compared to a full die

3070 Ti vs 3060 Ti is 20% less CUDA and 16,6% less rops. and less bandwitdh, cheaper GDDR6, but whatever that doesn't matter. $200 less
4070 Ti vs 4070, 23,3% less cuda and 20% less rops, same bandwith, and only $50, wow NVidia.

4070 is a more cut down version of 3060 Ti even, and if it isn't at least $250 less. I'll have to eat my hat, literally, because i will live on 200 gr of lentils per day for 2 months in order to afford it.

However take special note that this is an 'MLID' rumor... there is a tiny sliver of hope this might end up in retail at 699... :D

More like 30 percent faster, not 50 percent. Expect the usual garbage about frame generation. Nvidia lying for everyone to see. They seem to think it is working on the uninformed Twitch buyer, maybe it is.

Honestly, MLID is bottom feeding clickbait and yes I agree completely.

But I generally value those statements at sub zero. Every idiot can guess where the next release ends up in the stack. The release of the top end SKUs already set the stage. This is corporate living in fantasy land, power to them, I'm a no buy customer kthxbai

Same goes for AMD who's still content with sellers peddling RX 6800 (-XT) at price/perf close to or over MSRP. The universal message from me shall always be 'go f*ck yourself'... I'll be buying a console long before I feel being forced into a bad discrete GPU deal, or I'll just stretch the current one that much longer, no biggie.

If the rumours of an updated PlayStation come true, and if MS refresh the Xbox as well later this year, it will be hard to justify the price of building a mid-high end desktop PC.

I don't understand nGreedias end game here. It's almost like they want to pull out of the gaming market for all the damage their extreme prices are doing.

The way this is going, the only affordable mass market gaming card will be a $350+- RTX4050, and knowing nGreedia, it will probably only have 6GB and a 96Bit bus.

Thw writing on the wall is Nvidia will sell tens of thousands of cards to AI servers.

No need to bother with peasant PC "Master Race".

Even after all these years you guys don't get it, to me this was obvious all the way back in 2016, EVGA spilled the beans for everyone when they stopped the partnership by claiming Nvidia is trying to compete with AIBs on pricing.

They want to switch to complete vertical integration in their products Apple style, i.e they no longer want to rely on board partners. The final nail in the coffin will be rising the prices so much that board partners can longer make a profit and they can start selling founders edition cards exclusively.

Then why aren't nGreedias own cards significantly cheaper, more available outside the US, or offer a feature the AIBs don't?

They still can't make nearly enough of them to cover the entire market but to me it's obvious that that's their end goal. You can't just switch strategies like this overnight, it's going to be a slow process of driving AIBs out of the market and ramping up manufacturing capacity.

I bet this was also part of the plan with the abhorrently priced 12 GB "4080".
