Intel issued a product change notification (PCN), announcing the discontinuation of the reference-design Arc A770 16 GB Limited Edition graphics card. The product is now marked end-of-life (EOL) from Intel's end. What this means is that retailers cannot order more of it from Intel. The Arc A770 has 8 GB as its standard video memory size, and in its reference spec, uses 8 GB of 16 Gbps-rated GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit wide memory bus. The first-party A770 Limited Edition card comes with 16 GB of faster 17.5 Gbps memory. Memory aside, both the A770 Limited Edition, and custom-design A770 graphics cards have the same GPU core-configuration.

Oh snap they really meant limited. I love mine, its a pretty cool card. I think sparkle is a new OEM if this last computex is anything to go by.

Well at least it can do emulation unlike the 4060 ti which is a piece of garbage but even more so a piece of garbage for emulation where even the 3060 even outperforms it.

EOL already. . .I take it still has driver support.

I remember Radeon VII had a short lifespan & there was outrage. This change AMD outlook & brought back support.

it keeps getting better, DF did a video where the 750 for the price they asking (frequent discount to 200 dollars) is amazing value.
That said an older title like AC Unity runs at just 15 fps....and its unlikely they will fix that one soooo yeah if you are into completing a backlog of older games (like myself) then the card is a bit of a risky purchase.

This is a dum move Intel, hope you re-release it as the A775 or something you should have discontinued the 8GB instead to keep this gem in the market

Third parties can still make them. It is just a discontinuation of the Intel version. Kind of like when Nvidia stops making Founders Edition cards.

There have been rumors of an Alchemist refresh, but not for a while now. If there isn't a refresh then it looks like Battlemage won't be out until the 2nd half of 2024. Which is a long ways away. Especially with AMD yet to show their hand very much in the $300-$500 market. They could easily end any value talk of Intel Arc even if they are only marginally faster but even like $50 more expensive. Just on the basis of more mature drivers.

It is a limited edition card. Only needed for boost the sales.
When there are enough third parties it is no longer necessary to make these LE cards.
I think it was more expensive to manufacture under the Intel brand than from a third party.

there are lots of them out there, I imagine it will be easily possible to buy one for under $100 in a few years

Makes sense, they were late to the party by one year, probably they are losing money on each card.

Try two plus years

I believe Intel will ultimately cancel its discrete graphics plans before the release of battlemage. I think the same will happen to Ponte Vecchio successors.

Edit: The above link was the wrong one. Sorry about that. Here is the story about Intel’s original plans.

“Intel today provided one additional tidbit of information regarding its discrete “Arctic Sound” GPU aspirations: a launch date. According to a rather brief tweet, Intel says that its GPU family will be available in 2020…”

They planned a GPU ‘family’ in 2020. Instead all we got was DG1 integrated graphics modded into a discrete card in 2021 which was also late. Alchemist was up to or over two years late depending on when in 2020 the original release was planned.

Agree. I think they will shift resources to AI cards where the margins are much higher and where performance comparisons are not so heavily scrutinised and where drivers don’t need to be optimised for each game

A higher-priced higher-specced "Limited" model makes complete sense for a high-end product... except Arc is not that product, it's a turd. And very few people are interested in buying a turd, let alone an expensive one.

After all this time & hype & nonsensical claims, and with all their $$ & other resources, I am STILL wondering why intel did not put forth a "4090/7900 killer" FIRST, milk that for all it was worth, then come out with their entry & mid-level cards, you know, just like nGreedyia & AMD did......

Cause they certainly are not grabbing much market share with these overpriced, overhyped, but underperforming "turds"....:kookoo:....

I think a lot of people in the thread are missing that. You can still get 750’s 770’s and in the 16gb flavor. They also aren’t stopping support.

they are just not making the 770LE which was stated from the beginning that it was in fact limited.
