Today, Lenovo announced the new ThinkStation P8 tower workstation powered by AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors and NVIDIA RTX GPUs. Designed to deliver unparalleled performance, reliability and flexibility for professionals who demand the best from their workstations, the bold new ThinkStation P8 builds on the success of the award-winning P620, the world's first workstation powered by AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors. Featuring an optimized thermal design in a versatile Aston Martin inspired chassis, the ThinkStation P8 combines Lenovo's legendary reliability, customer experience and innovation with breakthrough compute architecture courtesy of AMD and NVIDIA. ThinkStation P8 raises the bar for intense workloads across multiple segments focused on outcome-based workflow agility.

"At Lenovo, we understand that our customers need high-quality workstations that can adapt to their changing and diverse needs. That's why we collaborated with AMD and NVIDIA to create the ThinkStation P8, a workstation that combines power, flexibility and enterprise-grade features," said Rob Herman, vice president and general manager, Workstation and Client AI Business Unit, Lenovo. "Designed to offer unparalleled performance and scalability, whether to run complex simulations, render stunning visuals, or develop cutting-edge AI applications, the ThinkStation P8 can handle it all. And with Lenovo's certifications, security and support, you can trust that the ThinkStation P8 will exceed expectations."

Flexible and Versatile ThinkStation P8 Industry Solutions
Professionals in fields such as architecture, engineering, media and entertainment, healthcare, education, and research know that a powerful and reliable workstation is critical to business success. Handling complex and demanding tasks, from data intensive workstreams to real-time graphics applications or AI model development, are part and parcel of these industries and users depend on highly configurable cutting-edge workstation solutions that empower them to push the limits of productivity, creativity and innovation. ThinkStation P8 is a workstation designed for these most challenging workloads. Its enhanced thermal design, developed in cooperation with Aston Martin, allows users to push powerful AMD CPUs and NVIDIA RTX professional graphics cards options faster and for longer, making the P8 ideal for breezing through the most complex workstreams.

Powered by the latest AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors built on the leading 5 nm "Zen 4" architecture and featuring up to 96 cores and 192 threads, Lenovo ThinkStation P8 thrives in high intensity environments such as building information modelling (BIM) workflows, software development projects or product lifecycle management. The new sleek and sturdy rack-optimized chassis offers larger Platinum rated power supply options to handle more demanding expansion capabilities. For example, it can support up to three (3) NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation GPUs to help reduce time to completion in graphics-intensive applications like real-time ray tracing or video rendering, simulation or computer aided design. The combined power also opens up new realms of immersive environments including digital worlds, AR/VR content creation, and advanced AI model development.

"We are delighted to power the latest ThinkStation P8 tower workstations with our cutting-edge AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors to bring leading performance and bandwidth to overcome ever more complex workflows," said Jason Banta, corporate vice president and general manager OEM PCs, AMD. "Architects, engineers, visual artists and AI model developers will relish the power, flexibility and reliability that ThinkStation P8 with AMD delivers."

"The Lenovo ThinkStation P620 with AMD Threadripper PRO technology has been an absolute game-changer for our 3D animation and development workflows over the last two years," said Bill Ballew, CTO, from DreamWorks Animation. "We are looking forward to significantly faster iterations due to the increased performance with the new ThinkStation P8 workstation powered by AMD Threadripper PRO 7000 WX Series in this coming year."

AI for the Enterprise
The evolution of workflows associated with data science and generative AI are becoming increasingly reliant on powerful CPU and GPU components. As datasets grow in size and complexity, AI professionals are having to balance workflow agility, time to insight, and expense efficiencies of cloud solutions, which are often cost-prohibitive at scale. Security and data governance are also concerns driving the need for more powerful compute in the hands of high value AI-focused employees.

Lenovo workstations excel at tasks such as AI data preparation, data cleansing, data visualization, model selection, model scoring, model training, and fine-tuning, which can occupy a significant portion of a data scientist's workflow. Large language models (LLMs) require powerful NVIDIA GPUs for training and tuning on owned data in the enterprise. The latest CPUs and AI-optimized NVIDIA GPUs feature throughout our ThinkStation and ThinkPad workstation portfolio, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise, an end-to-end software platform for production AI, allow organizations to work on their own data in a secure sandbox personal supercomputing environment. Find out more about how workstations can deliver real value in AI, data science and data analytics workflows in this blog post.

Comprehensive ThinkStation P8 Workstation Configurations
In addition to AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors and NVIDIA RTX Ada Generation GPUs, ThinkStation P8 includes ISV certifications, and supports Windows 11 and popular Linux operating systems. It features a range of storage and expansion capabilities that provide flexible and tailored configurations. Highly customizable options allow users to select the best components to handle complex and demanding tasks with ease and efficiency. Furthermore, easy access and tool-less serviceability provide future proof scalability and quick replacement of many components.

The P8 workstation can accommodate up to seven (7) M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSDs with RAID support, or up to three (3) HDDs for large capacity storage3, up to 2TB4 of DDR5 memory with octa-channel support and seven (7) PCIe slots including six (6) PCI Gen 5 that deliver higher speed connectivity, lower latency and more expansion capability, and includes 10 Gigabit Ethernet onboard to virtually eliminate network bottlenecks.

ThinkStation P8, like all Lenovo desktop workstations, includes built-in hardware monitoring accessible through ThinkStation Diagnostics software, and Lenovo Performance Tuner comes with numerous profiles to optimize many ISV applications. ThinkStation P8 also supports Lenovo's ThinkShield security offerings which provide comprehensive protection from BIOS to cloud. Furthermore, rigorous testing standards, Premier Support and extended warranty options deliver customers the confidence that the workstation will work reliably and safeguard their investment. That investment can be further managed through Lenovo TruScale which simplifies procurement, deployment, and management of fully integrated IT solutions, all delivered as a service with the simplicity of a scalable, pay-as-you-go model.

ThinkStation P8 powered by AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO WX-Series Processors and NVIDIA RTX graphics cards will be available starting Q1 20245. These renders with zero cables in them are a disservice to Lenovo Thinkstations as the cable management in those is usually on-point.

Does anyone know of Lenovo still makes the RTX workstation graphics cards? I got a Lenovo branded A6000 a while back, but haven't seen any for the newer cards except NVidia & PNY.

For some reason their P5 workstation with Sapphire Rapids doesn't have Intel VT-x properly enabled.
It is 'Enabled' in the BIOS but VMware keeps popping 'VT-x not supported on platform' warnings either loaded within Windows or from a boot drive.
and right now this moment I am still sitting in the office waiting for their support to call me back.

That's such a bummer for a $10k machine.
I hope they don't have the same problem in this P8 model.

I've seen many Platinum and Titanium models in Dell servers too. They're rarely ever reviewed properly but as a rule of thumb it's damn-near impossible to meet Titanium/Platinum efficiency levels by cutting corners and using cheap components.

If you buy a cheap POS, you'll get a cheap POS PSU in it too - whether that's Dell, HP, Lenovo, Supermicro or anyone else.

But that shouldnt be the case, as dell desktops are not cheap. And most of them are using reheated server parts for PSUs now.

Come'on... your paying a premium price for a unit like that. It always comes with a powerful and quality based PSU.

It's note like they are installing Sub Wattages PSU's in there which was a issue years ago with buying ATX cases and having their own PSU.

Yeah, I don't think Lenovo is known for using trash in their professional workstations, that is unless they want to start losing their government contracts.
