Hey guys. My niece requires a laptop that can handle photo and video editing. She is not a pro but wants to get into this. I found a few laptops that I think would be fine, but her budget is $700, which means most laptops I found were too expensive. Can anyone recommend a laptop that would be solid for video editing and photography software like Photoshop? Yet falls into the $700 budget? (ish)

I think the main focus is 16GB of RAM, a solid CPU (most likely Intel), a 1TB SSD, and a dedicated video card. Is that possible at this price point? I'm sure some of you know what you're doing when it comes to this topic.

Thanks!

does it have to be new??

If not she can easily get a dell precision laptop for that price that would be very powerful and most have dedicated nvidia cards.

If yes then her best bet is something like I got for 450 on sale brand new direct from dell but it's 650 most of the time:
Dell Inspiron 15 3525 : AMD Ryzen 7 5700u @ 1.9GHz (8c16t) // 16GB RAM // 1TB NVME SSD

or you can find a Latitude from dell outlet which is almost like new and comes w thier same warranty

If not dell than MSI or asus make decent gamer laptops. sis has an asus one w 4th gen intel i7 w 16gb ram and nvidia GTX that's lasted her a long time

I would avoid lenovo bc they have malware on thier systems and on the bios level too and are not to be trusted and even thier hardware quality has gone downhill.

Simple answer: NO...

It's gonna be nearly impossible to find an editing lapper in that price range, unless, as already stated, you/she buys a refurb somewhere....but I also would suggest checking into brands other than dellz before making a decision...they're generally OK, but tend to use a LOT of proprietary/non-upgradeable parts :(

And YES, I would avoid lenny-O's like the plague :D

well the parts in mine are upgradeable and not soldered in like my m.2 nvme ssd, so-dimm ram, pcie wifi and the service manuals for mine are easy to get from thier site...

macs on the other hand everything is soldered and they are anti-repair.... lenovo is going that route too :(

She bought an Asus Vivobook 15.6"
i5-1235U, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD with Windows 11.

She says it's working awesome for her so I suppose as long as she is happy.

I am surprised she didn't try to talk her way into getting the new m3 MacBook air that comes out tomorrow. $999 but would last and be super powerful for several years. Not a fan of Apple, but that m3 is one powerful chip and will last a long time, the 8gb ram though, yucky.

@Space Lynx She was pretty set on a Windows laptop. She has owned several MacBooks over the years but for her own reasons, she said no Apple products.

Neither a fan of macs, but newer "m" gen laptops are fun, they are not bricks, have great performance, and the battery does actually last.

If you want a classic x86, then on any ryzen apu Photoshop will run fine.

I would stay miles away from gaming laptops though, they're not laptops they're brics, you can't say to me that a total of a 5kg in the light side (psu+pc) is great to hang with. Without even mention that performance will always suck if you are nor plugged into a wall, hypey specs that you cannot use? Fuck that
