Hi guys I worked on this system since Feb. 2010 I has progressed into a very powerful fun computer to game on and I am very proud of its utter stability and temperatures. The idea was a LGA1366 With a very powerful Fermi ( this was Feb 2010 when Nvidia had alot of trouble with it). Fermi ended up coming through and delivering on it promise especially when overclocked. The heat produced was a concern of mine so I decided to liquid cool and go external for max cooling without and noise. Last step planned for this rig is a Intel 510 SSD on the marvell controller. The heart and soul of this thing is a GTX480 Hydro-copper and I got lucky on a very high binned chip (shit a card this expensive better have one). CPU is @4GHz with HT on and stays under 65C at all times and runs about 60C during long sessions of BC2. The GTX480 is running 972MHz core and 1032 men and stayes under 43C with the AC on and under 48C when the room is hot.
Now for a few of the early pictures from last year.
The inside doing a leak-test but using air at low pressure to see if its good to take on liquid.
This is a shot of the Hydro-copper, inside is a very simple setup as even the pump is absent from the case.
Taking on liquid. Since the design has no reservoir it had to be filled slowly and I piggy-backed the pump of another computer to slowly get liquid in and air out. The system contains no air/gas so being all liquid gravity plays little factor. It will run upside-down and its easy on the pump since its a horizontal push and the water being pushed helps pull as well on the way down from the small vertical changes.
This was a shot of the unfinished external part. Heat exchanger, pump and fill-port we located here but at this point it was just zipp-tied together since some modifications had to be made after the liquid went in.
I'll keep posting the progress from last year. The system is everything a gamer could want, Quiet and very powerful. BC2 Multiplayer runs over 120FPS and dips into the 90 very rarely and only on 1 certain map. Settings are all maxxed including 32xCSAA @1920x1080 on the LG TV S-IPS panel.
An absolute treat and ready for its true purpose. Battlefield 3 all out baby
.
Stay tuned.
