Discuss everything Duke Nukem Classic related here!

These are the games that finally spawned the cult classic Duke Nukem Forever the other day after 14 years (yes it will be, trust me ;)).

Right, let's start with Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition

I just got it from www.gog.com ran it - and it bombed out at startup. This baby runs in a DOS box through an emulator and didn't work. Solution:

- Right click the Duke Nukem 3D desktop shortcut
- Click the Compatibility tab
- Tick "Run this program as an administrator"
- Click ok. Sorted

Duke 3D hi res pack: http://hrp.duke4.net

Duke 3D updated engine: http://eduke32.com

Duke 3D troubleshooting: www.3drealms.com/tech/duke3d.html

I also got Duke Nukem - Manhattan Project and that ran just fine.

For Duke Nukem Forever, see this thread and for a couple of TPU user reviews by crazyeyesreaper and myself, see this one

I started out as a little boy starting out on Duke Nukem 1 & 2, and boy, that was sooooooo dam fun back in its hayday! Side scrolling at its finest. Games were put on a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. The music and sounds were so simple yet so entertaining with the awesome beeps and blops.
Hmmm...I wonder if Duke Nukem 1 & 2 are available anywhere on the net to purchase. I'm going to put on my search googles and find out. Might have to go through the same procedure as you just demonstrated there with the compatibility thing to get these old DOS games working.
The Plutonium Pak has to be floating around somewhere too. The Atomic Edition seems to already be on gog, going to have to do some more investigative digging, CSI style :D

My friend gave me a portable copy of this with the texture and xxx pack included. Seemed the mouse support was much improved as part of the HD pack.

I had it working, pretty sure it's that high res pack that allows it.

It's not the high res pack, it's eDuke32 - the game engine rewrite - that the high res pack is installed into. Go into the ingame menu in eduke and you can config it all up like a modern FPS

EDIT-> Actually, this is possible in the GOG.com version using the old engine, if somewhat less intuitive... To configure buttons, go to Start Menu>All programs>GOG.com>Duke Nukem 3D>Setup. (run setup as an administrator. if the thing bombs out before you quit right out of it, your settings won't be saved.)
Hit "U" ingame to enable mouse aiming, and if you want to invert the up/down axis or adjust sensitivity, go into the options menu ingame and it's right in there under "Mouse sensitivity" and "Mouse aiming flip". Hit "i" ingame to toggle crosshair.

Speaking of which, if anybody owns the authorized expansion packs, they DO work with eDuke32, but it takes some fiddling, and there are seperate HighRes packs for each expansion pack. I'm in the process of trying to get everything workin. Once I do, I'll post some useful links or PM qubit to update the OP

I have a Dingoo A320 modded with linux, running eDuke32 (not a fast enough device to run the HRP though), DukeI, Duke II, Commander keen, cyberdogs, Descent, descent II, Heretic, Hexen, DOOM, DOOMII, ROTT, OpenTyrian, ScummVM, dosbox, FCEu, Vice, PicoDrive, mame, Snes9x, etc etc etc. It's nearly the perfect retro handheld. I'm waiting for a newer version with a bit more power to come out to really run some of the more demanding apps (like DOSBOX) more playably. Unfortunately the chineese market is fraught with corporate espionage, ripoffs, and crap like that. A new "Dingoo" seems to come out every day from a different company.

I remember a Duke Nukem 3D expansion where Duke was on holiday and the setting was on a beach and stuff?

Okay so while typing my post i looked up the addons/expansions.

Plutonium PAK/Atomic Edition
EDuke
Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach
Duke it out in D.C.
Duke: Nuclear Winter
Duke Xtreme
Duke!Zone
Duke!Zone II
Duke Assault

Ive currently got Duke Nukem 3D xbox live version.
Just read on wikipedia they are remaking Duke Nukem 3D as Duke Nukem 3D reloaded, its built on the unreal engine 3 and the developer said they will let fans test the game at stages during production.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_3D:_Reloaded

EDIT: There is also a polymer renderer for Duke Nukem 3D check it out here

One thing that always puzzled me about Duke Nukem 3D was that there was a cheat where you typed in "dnallen" and you got the message "Buy Major Stryker". Would something different happen if I had Major Stryker installed when typing the cheat in?

Also, just wanted to cite something that always stuck in my mind:

You shouldn't be here

OK so far I have Duke It Out In DC and the Carribean Vacation expansions working in eDuke32, with the HRP but without the specific addon HRPs for each of these episodes.

some links:
from the Duke4.net forums, the Offical Addons Installation Guide

If you have the original .ssi files from the addons for CV and DC for the atomic edition of D3D, you can use these patches to extract the needed files from them without running any dos or commandline utilites

Carribean Vacation patch by SuperGoofy

Duke It Out In DC patch by SuperGoofy

If you want the newest version of the HRP, you can check it out of SVN. (and you need to do so to get the seperate HRP subunits for the addons anyway) check out This Guide on the Duke4.net forums

The HRPs for the addons are an Override of the normal HRP, meaning that you need the normal HRP in your autoload folder inside eDuke32 folder for them to work right, they replace specific textures and models, and use the rest from the normal HRP.

All of this info exists on the net. Most of it in the Duke4.net forums. Thanks go out to those guys for being a classy, helpful community, like our own.

Can somebody be so kind and tell me which game DEMO came with Atomic Edition, it was pretty sweet. It reminded me of Duke and Doom put together, however I completely forgotten the title and its been many years since I've played it...Remember, it came with the Duke Atomic Edition CD only

Don't know. I only own the 1.3d CD, and the atomic edition digital download.

The games on the 1.3d CD were DN1, DN2, (both full versions) there were shareware copies of: Raptor: Call Of The Shadows, Wacky Wheels, Rise Of The Triad, Terminal Velocity, and Realms Of Chaos.

There were also folders containing preview PCX files (Pictures?) of Shadow Warrior, Prey (LOL!), and BLOOD (that's probably what you're looking for, available on gog.com along with its sequel.)

NOTE
Prey's story and character are still in their infancy stages. None of this
should be considered final product, just development info. We want to take
the step, since the game is about being hunted, of making the character a
Native American. The character will be a successful business person or
politician, striking against the stereotypes. While a few aspects of Native
American culture will be brought into it, it will be as part of fleshing out
the character.

STORY
You are a successful Native American, fighting for part of what were your
ancestral lands. When the ruling goes against you, you pack up your Hummer
and head out to the wilderness to contemplate your future and hope for
guidance. Suddenly, there is a blinding flash of light, your skin crawls
with electricity and you black out. You wake to find yourself in a hostile
alien environment. Strange creatures pour out of every crevice of the odd
alien architecture, firing weapons of incredible might. You must find out
how to defeat them: master the alien weapons, explore the foreboding
battlefields to uncover their secrets, and discover what part you will take
in this violent new world.

Yeah the HRP has been mentioned a few times.

You too, huh? I don't have the jewel case any more, and I might have lost the manual, but the ol' CD is still around. Still reads just fine, despite the scratches.
