heres a quick lil ghetto mod i did a few weeks ago was bored, and decided to rip off the single 80mm fan on my zalman vf1000 that sits on an evga 8800gts 512. the 2 80mm fans fit perfectly over the cooler, with the help of some trusty zipties. I previously had a pci slot dual 80mm slim cooling fans aloong with the lil slim 80 on the cooler itself, after the switch along with some arctic ceramique swap from as5, i got about a 5 degree lower overall temp. idle at ~42 and on load with atitools ~mid 50's.

nice one! how many slots does it take up?

Probably 4

4, if you count the need for air intake.

Using two slim 70mm fans would take it down to 3 or less

well it probably doesn't matter anyway. I bet about 80% of people don't even use any PCI slots these days. motherboards come with everything.

ehehe... you havent seen pics of my system have you? there isnt a single slot left empty

3 slots, 1 for card, 1 for cooler, and 1 for the fans, the rest are open for air movement. takes up the same amount of space with my pci slot slim dual fans, but seems to move more air.

well, you are clearly in that other 20%!

i remember back in the day i had a modem, network card, sound card, tv tuner card, USB card, and that left one slot free for when i borrowed my mate's SCSI controller card.

these days I don't need/cant be bothered with any of that stuff
