That is insane, if you follow all the other thread about this on the other tech forums its pretty far reaching. Seems like a super elaborate scheme. Sucks for those who are affected, but it looks as though the Egg is making everything right.

I had a good laugh, it's pretty whack but I'm surprised nobody did this sooner.

I'd be sympathetic for the people who bought the processors but it's Newegg, they'll handle the issue. ^_^

Newegg is the largest and most respected online US computer retailer. That's why this is so shocking for us who buy from them regularly.

They have great customer service however so they will make it right for those folks.

DBA Public Relations has contacted us with the following statement.

"Newegg is aware of a shipping error that occurred with certain recent orders of the Intel Core i7-920 CPU. After investigating the issue internally it appears one of our long term partners mistakenly shipped a small number of demo boxes instead of functional units. Our customer service team has already begun proactively reaching out to the affected customers. In line with our commitment to ensure total customer satisfaction, we are doing everything in our power to resolve the issue as soon as possible and with the least amount of inconvenience to our customers."

I don't buy it. Why would a demo package include a fake cpu and blank manual.. Why not just an empty box.

yep, egg with fix what's been wronged forsure. I always shop there, even if i find a part cheaper on say tiger direct, the egg has been so good with me on 2 past RMA's and customer support that i gladly pay the xtra $5 bucks or so for a product here and there just to support them.

Well, they are blaming it on D&H Distribution. Maybe a few workers there are in the scam. By replacing the real cpu's with the fakes and then selling what they stole on ebay.

And newegg isn't to blame. They are actually handling it pretty well from what I read so far.

same, i've spent round $3000 newegg myself over the last 3 yrs n never had an issue. just some asshole(s) switching parts at a distributer. Be so tight if they catch em cause i'd hate to see the trouble they culprits would get in, n i'd be my whole system newegg is hot on this shit like brown on the dump i just took. :laugh:
