Be Quiet! Intros Dark Rock Pro CPU Cooler

Be Quiet! (brand name) announced its latest offering to PC enthusiasts, a humongous CPU air cooler named Dark Rock Pro. The cooler uses a branched dual metal-fin array design, similar to the Noctua NH-D14. It measures 133 x 150 x 166 mm, and weighs a staggering 1.55 kg (3.417 lbs). The design consists of seven heat-pipes which pass through two individual aluminum fin arrays. The heat-pipes make use of an oxygen-free copper layer.

Ventilation is care of two Silent Wings 120 mm PWM fans, one draws fresh air onto the first aluminum fin block, and the other that is sandwiched between the two fin blocks relays air to the second block. The fans spin at a top speed of 1700 rpm, and have 300,000 hours bearing life. All current CPU socket types are supported, including LGA1366, LGA1155/LGA1156, LGA775, AM3/AM2+/AM2. The Dark Rock Pro comes with a tube of Shin-Etsu TIM bundled; the package is priced at 79 EUR.

Might be heavy as hell, but is looks sick.

Does it come with the ninja hooks Scythe offers so you can tie it up to the ceiling of your case for support? Might be a good idea to bundle this cooler with them.

If it has a heavy duty backplate it shouldn't matter any.

If you have a decently mounted heat sink it's actually one of the better places to pick upa mobo from :laugh:

If mobo is secured properly and heatsink is assembled properly should never be an issue.

True to an extent though there is going to come a point where it doesn't matter what kind of backplate you have it is going to stress/bend/break the motherboard. I am not saying this would though there has to be a limit. But at 1.55kg man its one of the heaviest out there and for the cost aswell it needs to have some bloody good cooling capabilities. Still looks nice though

The heatsink it's self is probably only 100gs heavier than others.

But as the heatsink is sold as an entire unit the weight includes the two fans.

Normally high end dual tower heatsinks come with no fans and so people read "900 and 1000g" and think OOHHH not bad :laugh:

isnt there a point in which the mb would start to warp and/or crack due to the weight of the cooler? 3.47lbs does seem a little extreme

on another note...reviews please! lets see how well this this performs.

gigabyte has those ultra durable 3 layer pcb mobos - pretty sure those would be able to withstand the weight of this no problem

my cpu cooler weighs bout 950g and my mobo asus P5Q-E is already a bit bent and now imagine this with an 1.55kg cooler damn xD

I can't wait to see how this performs just out of curiosity as there is no chance i would buy it for my main rig, my last cooler was about 1.3kg and weight was what made me go with the H50, next stop a custom loop

Really my motherboard (asus m3a32) had no issue with 1.3kg but it was never in a case so always laid flat on its back, 1.5kg would make me scared to move it when in a normal case, it's bad enough dropping a computer in any way never mind if it had this monster strapped to the motherboard :laugh:

That kind of coolers are aimed at overclockers I assume cause stock clocks don't need much of a cooling. Even if it performs very well and thatway is worth it's price, I'd still save up some cash and get a used H50 or smth. But if you need decent cooling fast and aren't really into watercooling then it's a good choise, as long as your PC is settled horizontally

Be Quiet, the two new CPU cooler now officially launched and can give an exact delivery period: The two CPU coolers from February 2011 to be commercially available. The technical data of the two fans remain unchanged, there are also non-binding price recommendations fall of 59.90 € for the Advanced Dark Rock and € 79.90 for the model Dark Rock Pro.

I like the look, but 3.5 lbs is kinda heavy, and it would have to compete with thermalright to justify that weight.

If it fit in my HTPC ill buy that

cooler master elite 360 can be placed vertical or horizontal. For the strees ill may leave my case horizontal like its already placed and just put rubber spacers around the cpu under the mobo to make it transfer the weigt on the bottom of the case.

my V10 is 1.2KG stock and after swapping and adding a fan i am sure it out weighs this thing lol 1.55KG isn't that much. although the 4 coolers in my server don't add up to that together :roll:

Looks like a pain to install and would get in the way of tall ram.
My Tuniq Tower is bad enough to install if you are lazy about taking out the Motherboard out of the case.

What puch pins are you talking about? You have the choice to glue the base with epoxy on the cpu heatsink support or use that thick metal plate ontop and solder it to a part of your case

At $108.33 , that's a pretty steep price point if it doesn't demolish every other cooler.
