Steam Coming to TV's.

"Our partners and customers have asked us to make Steam available in more places. With the introduction of Steam on the Mac, and soon in Portal 2 on the PS3, we've done just that," said Valve vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi. "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

Valve did not elaborate on how Steam would be brought to televisions, but did say that big picture mode would "offer controller support and navigation designed for television interaction." It said it would share further details on the service with developers and publishers during private meetings at GDC.

besides my server is linked to my tv anyways and i can run steam on it all day long.

according to the steam mac store, there are 172 games for mac, so presumably, mac owners could potentially play 172 games on their macs or tvs.

Service?

Valve will be making it significantly easier to use Steam on a large monitor or television screen with the introduction of a new "big picture" mode it has in development.
The mode will be specifically tailored for navigation on a TV screen. It'll also allow users to interact with the digital distribution platform using a controller as opposed to a keyboard and mouse, which might not be the most elegant setup when having a computer plugged into a TV.

Think Windows Media Center, but with Steam.

just realised what with internet enabled tv's this may be like onlive but running over lan instead of internet so no lag problems

Why not? Linux has a massive user base. I ONLY use Windows cos of compatibility. If Ubuntu was more supported, i'd sell Windows in a heart beat.

More people might own TVs, but how many know about Steam compared to how many Linux users that know of Steam. Why support Mac and not Linux.
